Comparing us with other countries, which is nice. Still not saying energy prices recovered from 2016 hence why borrowing declined in those countries who resumed using energy revenue.

Vex unemployment numbers were down under the former administration because the employed had to be paid...

Brian Lara stadium should be on the graph as well. That's a great achievement for them.

JUHN Scarfy could only criticize, and while some of the criticisms are very justified, he still has no idea about what to do to turn the economy around. This mind you, was the man that railed against diversification because he couldn't muster any ideas to do so.

Dunno nuh...most analysts have been lamenting the lack of data to make a proper analysis of the economy, but Mr. Man was pulling out figures left, right and center, using them to paint a rosy picture of T&T's future. For example, several Economists have projected our debt to GDP ratio to increase while his graph had it coming down. So whom do you trust - the professionals who are experts in their field or the E-mail gate man?

Had to laugh at the "re-organized" Petrotrin figures as well ($7b in projected earnings from the new companies vs $10b in losses from the old). That is based on what — the current oil price of $ 45? Have the costs of shutting down and securing the assets of the refinery been factored into the equation or will that eat into the newly realized gains? Also note the Prime Minister was very careful with his wording eh...at no time did he say those figures were guaranteed, giving himself a convenient escape clause should things not go according to plan.

And as for his so-called "diversification" strategy, those 10 Chinese Manufacturing Companies setting up in the new industrial park — how many jobs will they be providing exactly? Next thing you hear the plants are highly automated, they bring in their own skilled workers and have the locals cleaning toilets. And as we're talking about China, they will be funding the Industrial Park as well as the Dry Dock facility in La Brea, so their influence continues to grow, sanctioned by our leaders. Buh yunno, they funded the Children's Hospital as well so "Kamla do it too".

Of course, the Prime Minister couldn't go into every little detail but the point is: there are lots of things that need clarification and a smidgen more that doesn't make sense. In the end this came across as nothing more than an exercise in blowing sunshine up his supporters' arse - and from the standing ovation they gave him at the end of the presentation it looks like it worked...:|

Awaits the economists and other SME's input. Then again, Impsy has already labelled them as UNC, so it is extremely doubtful that anything they say will be heeded or taken into consideration, since the Dear Leader JUHN Scarfy has apparently spoken.

the one iota of truth.. lol.
in the post-mortem, marla doukeran open up by saying the imf figures sh!tkicker said was false info. sad thing is, just last week she was talking about imf and their projected growth for trinidad, so it was already being circulated before this paid political horsecrap.

but tv6 hit them for six with this, i will steal it. lol

the automation of the plants is sumthing i thought about as well. cause a few nvidia gpu's will have enough ai power to manage and predict a lot of the typical and atypical processes. might just need maintenance crews to bolt and unbolt stuff, and maintain the processors.

I must admit for a long while now, I have always felt that our PMs when addressing the nation should present evidence and data via visual aids etc.
The way the present PM used this approach however, has reminded me how easily data can be manipulated rendering the exercise useless.
His interpretation of the natural gas supply and demand graphs was absolute nonsense (many data points referred were as a result of decisions made 5-8 years prior).
His projections for oil revenue from the Petrotrin sub. was not explained and did not accommodate the need to import refined product.
This whole episode must have been quite infuriating for many purists (who live by the standards that govern this type of presentation).
