Police are investigating a shooting incident in the vicinity of Hanggers Extreme in Chaguanas.

The intended target, police suspect, was Rachael Sukhdeo.

Sukhdeo is the wife of slain Chaguanas Businessman Sheron Sukhdeo who was killed on March 26th 2018.

Sukhdeo's brother-in-law, Phillip Bassant, was killed just a few months later on May 4, 2018.

Sheron's brother, Sheldon Sukhdeo, was abducted and later found dead on January 23, 2019.

Since then there have been multiple threats and even attempts on her life, with other persons who were close to Sheron Sukhdeo being killed.

In today’s incident, Rachael Sukdheo was said to have been leaving the popular spot after a night out with some friends.

Around 4:00 am Sunday morning, she had exited the club and was in the company of a man when several loud explosions were heard. Sukhdeo dove for cover in the carpark under the hail of bullets.

Eye-witnesses told police that masked men were then seen running into two waiting cars and driving away.

Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries as a result of the gunfire.

However, many persons, LoopTT was told, suffered minor injuries in an attempt to escape harm.

There was, however, reports of damage to vehicles and the nearby building.

It does make you wonder whether this was a set up to get exactly that.

Very few of the many people who apply for asylum actually fit into that category, she must have realized that so she had to return to fix it and prove persecution. Which is defined as the infliction of suffering or harm, or a serious threat to your life or freedom. Harassment alone isn’t enough, but things like death threats, assassination attempts, pressure to join a group engaging in illegal activity, interference with your family, home, have all been found to qualify.

The threat against her needs to be nationwide. She won’t be thought to have a well-founded fear of persecution if all she has to do to avoid the problem is simply moving to another part of the country.

Plus If she claims that she got a genuine fear of future persecution in her home country and can prove it....

For example, if you were the innocent wife of a organized crime boss but didn’t know it and your husbands rivals sent you death threats, or killed your husband and you could probably be next can show a reasonable fear of persecution. But there must be proof of this reason for your persecution. She do not have to prove that she is being singled out for persecution from the members of a rival group. She will only need to show a pattern, where groups of persons who are close to her are being persecuted.

Will also be nice if she can add that there is persecution from this country’s government or other authorities (such as police or security forces).

The refugee law also recognizes persecution by groups that your current government is unable to control, such as criminal gangs or organized crime. Again, however, the persecution must have some basis she can say a rival crime boss Is coming after her just because her dead husband did not pay him off and he wants it from her or he will kill her next.

I think now she officially has proof of a "Well-Founded Fear" where she will need to show both subjective and objective reasonable fear. A subjective fear means that you, personally, really do fear returning to your country of origin. An objective fear means that you can demonstrate facts, based on objective sources of evidence or your and other witnesses’ persuasive, credible testimony, that any reasonable person would fear persecution in your position.

So if it was a set up it was well laid out with witnesses, camera men standing up to record and show her running away and also showing the gun men who couldn’t shoot straight driving off.

Rachael's husband, brother, brother-in-law, now relative killed

The killings that started with the slaying of multi-millionaire auto and real estate dealer Sheron Sukhdeo, continue.

On Monday night Naresh Basant, a relative of Sheron’s wife Rachael Sukhdeo, was gunned down.

Basant, 39, of Caroni Savannah Road, Charlieville, was killed at Korea Village, Carapichaima around 6.45 p.m.

Police said that residents claimed they saw nothing of Bassant’s killing.

And on Saturday night, Hardath Solomon who police described as a hitman, and a close associate of Sukhdeo was was shot dead on Saturday in a drive-by attack near Freeport police station around 7 p.m.

Detectives said that Solomon, 42, had been linked to Sukhdeo and reputed criminal mastermind Selwyn “Robocop” Alexis.

Alexis was gunned down in July 2017, and Sukhdeo met the same fate in March 2018.

On March 26, 2018, in a hail of bullets near his wife’s relatives’ home at Charlieville, Sukhdeo was murdered.

Two weeks later, his brother in law brother, Phillip Basant, was gunned down at the very corner.

Sukhdeo’s neighbour, Joshua Plaza, 21, was killed on April 22.

The multi-millionaire’s employee Erwin Beckles was shot dead weeks later on May 14.

Sukhdeo’s wife, Rachael Sukhdeo, and two children fled the country even though barbed wire was installed over their mansion days after Sukhdeo’s funeral.

The barbed wire, secured to lengths of steel, surrounds the perimeter and stands more than 20 feet tall at the property at the corner of Xavier and Tenth Streets, Orchard Gardens in Chaguanas.

Known as “World Boss”, Sukhdeo owned a fleet of at least 15 luxury vehicles, eight speed boats, ten jet skis and two small aircraft, as well as two buses, 12 mini vans, and four taxis. He was also the owner of seven houses and six apartments, a restaurant and owned other businesses.

Sukhdeo first appeared in the Chaguanas court in February 2016 charged with committing the act of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against his wife at their Orchard Gardens, Chaguanas, home.

The charges were laid after his wife Rachael Sukhdeo posted photos of her alleged injuries on social media, with blue and black marks on the face, chest and legs.

The posts sparked national outrage, with women groups speaking up, and the police taking the woman to a safe house.

Months later the mother of two told the court that they had reconciled and she no longer wished to pursue the matter.

The case was dismissed after she said she was not forced, threatened or induced into her decision and the case was dismissed.

On Carnival Monday 2017, Sukhdeo was again hauled before the court charged with receiving two stolen cars and fraud.

He was never convicted of a crime.

His brother, Sheldon Sukhdeo, was kidnapped for a $2 million ransom in December, and his burnt body found weeks later.

All of the killings remain unsolved.

And on May 12 (Mothers’ Day) an attempt was made on the life of Rachael Sukhdeo.

The mother of two, was leaving a nightclub in Chaguanas early on Sunday, when gunmen began firing on her.

Rachael Sukhdeo was not hit, and was able to escape the scene and made a report at the Chaguanas Police Station.

She was with a male companion and other people at time of the attack.

Witnesses reported seeing masked men fleeing the scene.

Several vehicles and the nightclub building were hit by bullets.
