They going to be selling phones off CHEAP now.

 I honestly expected this. But I think the bb10 devices may slightly drop, not skyrocket down.. That'll be the bbos devices.

With BBM launching this weekend cross platform, use this article if anyone doesn't understand why BBM is still the best (even if you dont use a blackberry)

SOLD. Dammit.

I prefer to not say "sold" but rather changing from public to private ownership, Fairfax Financial was already their largest shareholder, and it's a consortium of investors buying up all the shares, not just fairfax.

Private ownership allows them to get an investment infusion as well as not have to face the ups and downs of the stock markets while they get their house in order.

The job cuts is an effort to reduce headcount to levels they were at around 2007/2008.

To me the best bet is for them to focus on software and services and license the OS out to 3rd party manufacturers like HTC / LG / Samsung because that $1bn asset writedown they just took is because they havent been very good at marketing hardware.

Allowing 3rd party manufactures to build and market the hardware will reduce their risk as well as their recurrent costs.

How so?

-used it for 10 mins. Crashed 3 times trying to use the "superior" emoticons.
-overall app design is silly. It lags, seems to be not quite retina optimised. Obviously not iOS 7 optimised either.
-for me only two messages Max can be seen while the keyboard is open. I've heard android users can see a grand total of 4 in this mode. I believe this is because of the name being written each time in single chat mode.
-something about it isn't optimized in terms of battery use, it flew through 20% of my battery in that time of use and I'm seeing its a constant service on android...

Why didn't they design an iOS app. Or an android app. Rather than an optimized/ported bb10?

haven't used it myself, didn't see any complaints online about the actual app itself, on Android it actually was working very well. on BB10 you can toggle names in the chat don't know if iPhone version has the option in settings, time will tell i suppose

Haven't heard any issues with the IOS or Android version either, let's wait on the final release before final review.

As for the pending sale, its not final yet, just letter of intent.
Who knows maybe as a private entity they may get the ball rolling properly ... But this applies to the US market mostly, as we all know is more biased to apple

How'd you get this for iOS? I thought it wasn't released yet. Does it require a new pin or can I use the pin from my 9810?

The rollout was paused because 1m ppl were too impatient...long story

On android and iOS you sign in with your BlackBerry ID and all your contacts will transfer

do you believe that BB, as either a hardware manufacturer, or as a service provider, or as a standalone OS supported by third party hardware makers, can recover and survive?

or are they absolutely dead in the water now?

Also, i have a q10 sitting here on my desk and it needs to be unlocked... can u point me in the right direction locally?

I have a NZ appstore account. It was officially released and reached as far as india however because of the leaked android version they had to find a way to kill it off as it was killing their servers. You can use your old PIN as stated before. It works as described. Added a few persons and had only the issues described before.

Khafra, as soon as i scroll to the next page of emoticons, i get a FC... I still find it hilarious that this was in beta for so long and it still has bugs

NZ gets apps before every other appstore. They would have gotten PvZ2 before also.

Because iOS 7 having two major security vulnerabilities after only a week is much better right? It's software, there will always be bugs

This is a really sad time for Blackberry. More people will now be out of jobs. Families will have it hard. Sad to see another company going down like this.
