Clock tower erected in San Fernando
Jonathan Ramnanansingh
San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello and Michael Jay Williams of Timekeeper installed an 18-foot clock tower at Independence Avenue/Harris Promenade corner on Saturday morning.
The four-clock dial measures 4ft x 4ft on each side and will be illuminated at night. Timekeeper also placed a global positioning system (GPS) at the top which automatically resets the device after a power failure. Regrello, following Saturday’s timely installation, acknowledged Williams for his generous offering and dubbed the valuable contribution, “A Christmas gift to the people of San Fernando.”
According to Regrello, Williams offered to erect and maintain a clock in San Fernando approximately one month ago.
The city mayor accepted and used the past couple weeks to source an ideal location.
“We were trying to locate a space that was properly suited and we felt that next to the (San Fernando General) hospital was the best place to put it, as it’s a main hub,” he said. “It’s centrally located to aid people heading over to the hospital, the Magistrate’s Court, San Fernando Police Station, schools and other lawyer offices which are within close proximity.”

Junia Regrello just trying to show that he is doing something but have his priorities wrong. The few things worth while he did was putting railings on the top of high street and traffic alleviation on the top of Mucurapo St. The funny part is that he's doing more than MP Faris who only dressing in black but doing nothing.
Altho "nice" the public doesn't care about the erection of a new clock. The dial on the top of high st, you move it from one end to the next and host big party for the opening. The public doesn't care about the renaming of streets. You decide to put LED lamps on the median along independence avenue where nothing was wrong when the halogen street lamps was on opposite sides. Regrello's focus seems to be just High Street and environs as is high thoroughfare areas.
Potholes and drainage are major problems all over San Fernando and not much has been done hence why he lost seats in the corporation. Amazing is that the whole corporation was full pnm, the mp is a pnm, the pnm government in office and little done in Sando?
Gentrification is needed in these areas to get rid of PNM.hydroep wrote:They thought no one would vote fuh "the corrupt, thieving UNC" and believed they could get away with neglecting the districts as they have done in other "secure" PNM areas (Diego Martin, Port of Spain, Point Fortin etc).
But Sando West (and its districts) still marginal. If they didn't know that before they know so now.
Doh care which party in power nuh, doh come rong here with that sh!t...yuh go pay for it...

Young: Not my relative
Carla Bridglal
National Security Minister Stuart Young, in a statement to media today, denied that any relative of his was arrested during a major drug bust in Westmoorings this morning.
"It has come to my attention that it was being suggested and reported that a relative of mine has been arrested. No relative of mine has been arrested," Young said.
He confirmed that the suspect was a relative of his former partner.
"I have no connection or relation to the young woman in question. I will emphasize that no one is above the law and anyone who breaks the law will face the consequences."

Traffic nightmare at Mosquito Creek
Yvonne Webb
A truck stalled along South trunk Road on Mosquito Creek Tuesday morning, leaving hundreds of motorists and commuters in a traffic gridlock.
Motorists could not escape the traffic as the section of highway where the incident happened had no shoulder.
Traffic heading north from Fyzabad, Oropouche and Siparia and south from San Fernando, Gulf View, La Romaine backed up for miles.
The truck shut down on the narrow stretch which was opened in October as part the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin.
Since the opening of the elevated roadway, road users have complained about the narrowness of the two lanes, the closeness of the crash rails and the absence of emergency shoulders.
Because of these factors, traffic is limited to the speed of 30 km an hour along that stretch and no overtaking is allowed.
One commuter told the Newsday she was on her way to Port of Spain for a particular time but failed to meet her deadline. She was caught in traffic from South Oropouche around 9am, and around 10.10 am she was yet to reach the creek.
