you can also try this route and put a better sounding system together yourself.DVSTT wrote:Anyone have this system? Is it good. Looking to bring one down with me when I travel.

Radio Shack was the first place I tried with no luck, guess Amazon for it. Thanks guys
I use a BenQ710ST as my daily in my living room. It works for me. The black level isn't videophile grade in the ambient light but it's sufficient for me.Morpheus wrote:*feels left out/ignoredMorpheus wrote:1080p projector guys. What brand do you use?
I'm thinking of getting one for occassional movies and gaming. I'm considering replacement bulb price, noise, heat, "not completely dark room" viewing etc.
These are just some I came across....

Oh I doing something similar with my PS3 n tv. My pre/pro doesn't have HDMI. Thankfully it has fiber optic though. It also has DVI but none of my devices support that.
Sucks you didn't get it at Radio Shack. Well Amazon or if u still wanna try locally, try Montrose Electronics or the Wizz Computers
So I take I'm the only one up on here running separates?
nope, you will be amazed at what some ppl running here who don't really post often
and if you buy a HTIB you will have to sell the entire thing when upgrading
yup, 32" is for your kitchen or toilet or something lol. Doesn't even make a decent desktop monitor unless you spend plenty $$$ on a 2560 x 1440 res screen.Morpheus wrote:Thanks bud...
My intention is for occassional use for gaming and movies.
Intend to get a larger HDTV for the living room. 32" is the new 20"

A very nice starter receiver. Everything you need nothing you don't. Decent power. I owened this at one time. Paid way more than its current asking price of US $149

The advantage is that when upgrading you have the option of swapping out individual components. The disadvantage is the cost in purchasing equipment. Once you start buying the various speakers (L/R/C/RL/RR/Sub) the cost will eventually add up. It depends on what your budget is and what you really want from the system. IMO, building from scratch and selecting good quality items will allow you to hold on to the system for quite some time.

I was under the impression that the onkyo system I linked could be parted out and upgraded one by one. I'm still in school so I can't blow large sums of money on system components just yet.

no it cant, a HTIB comes with a passive sub with the receiver supplying the power for it
Most does not even have a sub out (pre out) so you are pretty much stuck with an aweful sounding sub.....the power rating is also limited as they pretty much match the speakers supplied with them
so even if you upgrade speakers later, your not sure they will be powered properly and if not you run the risk of clipping the receiver
so be wise when you spend, as when time to upgrade and re-sell the present equipment you may have to cut deep losses
