While Hong Kong is the cheapest, Americans are definitely better off heading up to Canada to grab their unlocked iPhone 4 from the Apple Store.

Here's a little more information

Comex has released his jailbreak for all iOS 4 devices including the iPhone 4.

Unfortunately, the servers were immediately slammed and have gone down.

Once you have jailbreakon your iPhone on iOS 4 you will be able to unlock it using UltraSn0w.

What methods you guys use for Contact & Bookmark syncing? Just to see if there are any better methods...

I use Outlook for my contacts.

With dad's i use yahoo! because outlook screws them up (he has quite a lot of names and i have been syncing from a p800->p990 then to the 2G onwards) but yahoo is nice.

What i do is use the sqlitedb file from var/mobile/library/addressbook and copy and paste it.

Only thing i noticed was that i can't sync on another home pc easily again. I wanted to sync my 3.1.3 2G version on the 3G and it didnt work. Seems that 4.0 uses a new process.

WRT to bookmarks. I use ReaditLater. so when i find something i use the built in thing. You create a ReaditLater bookmark thing and click it on a site and it syncs with your account.

Just thought I should have stated my current methods.

Contacts - Google Accounts (works fine except for when it comes to birthdays)
Bookmarks - Save .HTML file of my bookmarks from Chrome (primary browser) & import into Safari
Calender - Microsoft Exchange connected to my Google Account

I took zcrugby's suggestion to use a Microsoft Exchange account to do the Contacts, which worked for the most part, but since I had some custom labels it apparently conflicted with it & deleted some numbers as well so I reverted to Google Accounts. Before that it was Outlook but that randomly messed up contacts.

I fed up!

Somebody help me please!

I have a 3gs firmware 3.1.3 MC model it's locked.

I don't know if the shsh is saved or backed up, I tried to do it using umbrella and it said saving.

2 months ago my uncle came to me with a dead screen after using cydia and he installed an app, He never saved the shsh in cydia and the only way to bring the screen back was restore using 3.1.3. After that I tried backing up the shsh on 3.1.3 in a bid to jailbreak the unit. He doesn't have the At&T sim either.

I see comex came out with jailbreakme 2.0 but still this won't work cause he doesn't have access to the files.

SOMEONE PLEASE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO JAILBREAK THIS iPHONE

Just go to http://www.jailbreakme.com

It's a userland jailbreak ie. it runs completely on your iPhone/iPod. No need for Cydia or a computer for that matter. If you can connect to the Internet with your device, you can jailbreak it now.

Once it's jailbroken and Cydia is on your springboard, go to Ultrasn0w and unlock it also.

The server is completely saturated. I am jailbreaking both my iPod and iPhone running iOS4. I thought something was wrong when it kept saying that the installer crashed but it worked on the iPod after an hour of constant refreshing. Just continuously refresh the page and hope you get a download slot.

That's the problem I have with comex jailbreaks, you must have access to the unit's springboard

What you need is a valid sim to activate it. You could ask around places selling phones and see if they have one. It doesn't need to be working. Just being from the carrier is enough. Any phone company that can legally sell an iPhone on it's network will work, (ie. AT&T, Orange, O2, Rogers, Fido (mine).

Not all the sim cards work all the time in the units, if the card is activated it might help.

But I've got some AT&T sims & they didn't work.

It's from Canada he brought it but with no sim, I haven't gotten access to a fido or Rogers .
I'll appreciate the help of anyone, if anyone is willing to assist with their card I'll appreciate the assistance.

Detective Josh Fazio of the Will County Sheriff's Department loves it when an iPhone turns up as evidence in a criminal case.

The sophisticated cell phone and mobile computer is becoming as popular with police as it is with consumers because it can provide investigators with so much information that can help in solving crimes.

"When someone tells me they have an iPhone in a case, I say, 'Yeah!' I can do tons with an iPhone," said Fazio, who works in the sheriff's department high-tech crimes unit.

The iPhones generally store more data than other high-end phones -- and investigators such as Fazio frequently can tap in to that information for evidence.

And while some phone users routinely delete information from their devices, that step is seldom as final as it seems.

"When you hit the delete button, it's never really deleted," Fazio said.

The devices can help police learn where you've been, what you were doing there and whether you've got something to hide.

Former hacker Jonathan Zdziarski, author of iPhone Forensics (O'Reilly Media) for law enforcement, said the devices "are people's companions today. They organize people's lives."

And if you're doing something criminal, something about it is probably going to go through that phone:

• Every time an iPhone user closes out of the built-in mapping application, the phone snaps a screenshot and stores it. Savvy law-enforcement agents armed with search warrants can use those snapshots to see if a suspect is lying about whereabouts during a crime.

• iPhone photos are embedded with GEO tags and identifying information, meaning that photos posted online might not only include GPS coordinates of where the picture was taken, but also the serial number of the phone that took it.

• Even more information is stored by the applications themselves, including the user's browser history. That data is meant in part to direct custom-tailored advertisements to the user, but experts said some of it could be useful to police.

Clearing out user histories isn't enough to clean the device of that data, said John B. Minor, a member of the International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners.

Just as users can take and store a picture of their iPhone's screen, the phone itself automatically shoots and stores hundreds of such images as people close out one application to use another.

"Those screen snapshots can contain images of e-mails or proof of activities that might be inculpatory or exculpatory," Minor said.

• The keyboard cache logs everything that you type in to learn autocorrect so that it can correct a user's typing mistakes. Apple doesn't store that cache very securely, Zdziarski contended, so someone with know-how could recover months of typing in the order in which it was typed, even if the e-mail or text it was part of has long since been deleted.

Sometimes, the phones can help even if the case isn't a matter of life or death.

In Kane County, the sheriff's department used GPS information from one of the phones to help reunite a worried father with his runaway daughter, who was staying at a friend's house.

"His daughter felt comfortable at the house because she did not think her parents knew where she was, and she actually answered the door. She was a bit surprised as to the fact that [her] dad found her," said Lt. Pat Gengler, a spokesman for the sheriff's department.

not exactly , jailbreakme.com is just a userland jailbreak , but you will need to have access to your browser(safari on the phone) so u will need to have your phone activated via an original sim with service or a phonebooksim (cost is about 10 USD) that is a link above to order it and with insturctions oh how to activate the phone using the phonebook sim , at this point u will have your phone activated and jailbraked NOT UNLOCKED , the unlock is not released as yet but will be out as soon as testing is over with days , weeks , after which u will be able to unlock your phone and enjoy it
