Don't even attempt to pass through Saddle rd Santa Cruz to the Croisee. Flood and debris like that. Standstill traffic too.

only two real problems possible with thier system. is either the incoming screens or filters are being fouled more frequently than normal, the solution would be to clean respective screens/filters more frequently.
the other is the actual treatment system having a lot more than could be handled.

that solution would be to dilute the incoming turbid water to a concentration where it wouldnt overwhelm the systems.
so, for example, if the system could process 100 m3 of water per minute, at a specific turbidity, and the turbidity quadruples, then only take in 25m3 of turbid water and and 75m3 of clear water to keep the systems running.

well the output will be reduced. duh.
then u will have to study how much turbidity u will experience in the futre and retrofit ur systems to handle it.

but, a we need to evaluate the cost to treat this heavy silted water compared to the cost of desalinating water.
which ever is cheaper, we should do that... factoring in higher natural gas prices in the future.

What about settling ponds ? Or dams , and pull the intake when it settles?

They use a set of screens to keep debris out. Thats what they mean. It keeps out large objects like bottles, branches etc.
The raw water is pumped in where a polymer and coagulant is added. It mixes there due to turbulent flow and then moves to a settling tank where the particles form flocs and settle out. Cant dilute the influent.

Water is filtered with a sand filter. Has a rapid sand where water is forced through it amd slow sand where gravity flow is used.

Nowhere on the plant uses a filter to remove turbidity. Turbidity is removed via coagulation, floccolotion and sedimentation.

well, they need to expand their flocculation process

I don't think they meant turbidity in the memo though.

Only way I can see water becoming more turbid is if they getting run off from quarries and bare land.

Either way the system is very capable of handling the load..

the water like ovaltine. thats as turbid as u can get before u have to call it particulates.
but during these heavy rain events, u get a lot more debris, sediments, turbidity and ionic impurities... they need to expand their treatment capacity to deal with all of this and not get overwhelmed.
... and i want to think that the feasibility studies will prove that the amount of extra fresh water treatment to deal with this, may be significantly more than desalination for the comparable production.
