New ferry delayed in China

WHILE the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) was up to yesterday waiting for mandatory inspections to be carried out on the T&T Express, Finance Minister Colm Imbert confirmed the Government's newly-purchased passenger ferry, Galleons Passage, has been delayed in China.
Imbert yesterday responded to public and media questions over the status of Galleons Passage via Twitter, saying China's week-long New Year celebrations have delayed some of the paperwork necessary for the vessel to leave that country for its two-month journey to T&T.
The T&T Express was last week taken off the water following a series of breakdowns, and is currently awaiting inspection before the renewal of its class certificate from the international body, DNV.

Apparently. Imbert did say that it was originally built for either the government of or some company in Venezuela.
Turns out that Imbert and Co. used smoke and mirrors to distort certain things.
No wonder the boat cannot leave China as yet (if ever - LOL).
But doh worry, we will have a 'brand new boat' by the time 2020 elections come around.

How come he always in some boat scandal, from MV Sue to Galleon Passage.
...On other national issues touched on in her address, Persad-Bissessar slammed the new vessel the Galleons Passage firstly for being selected by a committee of ministers and secondly for lacking a roof, toilets and having chairs shaped like those in the “pit” in old time cinemas. “These people cannot, cannot be serious.
This is the biggest scandal to rock T&T this year,” she declared...
No big cost to taxpayers for ferry upgrade

TAXPAYERS will not be saddled with the entire bill for upgrades to the Galleons Passage ferry, due to take place in Cuba, Finance Minister Colm Imbert has said.
The newly built passenger vessel, bought by the Government last month to service the Trinidad and Tobago seabridge, has left the Bonny Fair shipyard in China for Port of Spain and is expected in local waters by April 28.
Imbert yesterday said via Twitter that the vessel left China for T&T around 10.45 a.m. Guandong time (12 hours ahead of local time).
On its way to its new home in T&T, the vessel will make stops in Hong Kong, Honolulu and the Panama Canal and will, lastly, pull into Santiago de Cuba for modifications.
