New ferry delayed in China

Published on Feb 15, 2018, 9:00 pm AST
By Kim Boodram

WHILE the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) was up to yesterday waiting for mandatory inspections to be carried out on the T&T Express, Finance Minister Colm Imbert confirmed the Government's newly-purchased passenger ferry, Galleons Passage, has been delayed in China.

Imbert yesterday responded to public and media questions over the status of Galleons Passage via Twitter, saying China's week-long New Year celebrations have delayed some of the paperwork necessary for the vessel to leave that country for its two-month journey to T&T.

The T&T Express was last week taken off the water following a series of breakdowns, and is currently awaiting inspection before the renewal of its class certificate from the international body, DNV.

Today is February 17th

In 1845 the sailing vessel name fatel razack left Indian to Trinidad in a time of 104 days.

Now we have the PNM with a so called modern powered vessel with a shorter root via the Panama canal .

Can anyone guess how long this will take to get here under PNM?

So Imbert lied about the new boat.

It was built and in the water since 2016.

Dona Mercedes or some such is the original name.

Tuner detectives go to work.

Apparently. Imbert did say that it was originally built for either the government of or some company in Venezuela.

Turns out that Imbert and Co. used smoke and mirrors to distort certain things.

No wonder the boat cannot leave China as yet (if ever - LOL).

But doh worry, we will have a 'brand new boat' by the time 2020 elections come around.

Something is wrong there. Unless the photo date is wrong, which is quite possible.

The website states that the boat was made in 2017.

The taker photo outer's details states that the photo was taken on 16/9/2016.

Place of photo - Korea!!!!!!!! Really!!!!!!!

Grand Cacique Express acquired new vessel

Date - September 29, 2016

Primicias24.com (NP) - In order to optimize the passenger transfer service, the shipping company Gran Cacique II CA , with the support of the national Government, acquired a totally new catamaran-type boat 74 meters long and 22 meters long .

The vice president of shipping company, Jorge Rassi , reported that the boat is Australian design and was built in the city of Guangzhou in southern China, with international certification Lloyds Register.

The boat complies with the latest industry standards that guarantee the safety of passengers and the preservation of the environment. The catamaran was thrown into the sea only two weeks ago and currently only details are adjusted and the respective sea trials are carried out.

The spokesman for Grand Cacique Express said that it is a modern vessel with capacity for 110 vehicles and 750 passengers, with all the amenities for travelers. It will sail at a maximum speed of 24 knots and with a crossing time of two and a half hours. It will have the same listed seats, terrace and VIP lounge.

According to Rassi, this new boat is named Doña Mercedes and should be operational for the month of December. He assured that he will cover the route Puerto La Cruz - Punta de Piedras (PDP), in Margarita, and vice versa, so it will be added to the Don Nasib and Aurora V ferries.

...On other national issues touched on in her address, Persad-Bissessar slammed the new vessel the Galleons Passage firstly for being selected by a committee of ministers and secondly for lacking a roof, toilets and having chairs shaped like those in the “pit” in old time cinemas. “These people cannot, cannot be serious.

This is the biggest scandal to rock T&T this year,” she declared...

No big cost to taxpayers for ferry upgrade

Published on Feb 27, 2018, 8:56 pm AST
By Kim Boodram

TAXPAYERS will not be saddled with the entire bill for upgrades to the Galleons Passage ferry, due to take place in Cuba, Finance Minister Colm Imbert has said.
The newly built passenger vessel, bought by the Government last month to service the Trinidad and Tobago seabridge, has left the Bonny Fair shipyard in China for Port of Spain and is expected in local waters by April 28.
Imbert yesterday said via Twitter that the vessel left China for T&T around 10.45 a.m. Guandong time (12 hours ahead of local time).
On its way to its new home in T&T, the vessel will make stops in Hong Kong, Honolulu and the Panama Canal and will, lastly, pull into Santiago de Cuba for modifications.

Why does it need modifications and why cuba?? Isnt this a new boat built specifically for the seabridge between both islands?
