One-lap success for Lalonde

Lalonde Gordon claimed bronze for Trinidad and Tobago at the Olympic Games, here in London, England, tonight.

Gordon got to the line in 44.52 seconds - his second personal best in as many days - to secure third spot in the final, behind Grenadian Kirani James (43.94) and Dominican Republic's Luguelin Santos (44.46). James is the first ever Olympic medallist from Grenada.

Just heard that Renny Quow will not be apart of our 4x400 relay team. It's a dent to the team but we're still backing our boys. We have a bronze medallist on our team.

Can someone confirm the story below for me please.....

LONDON -- Kirani James claimed Grenada's first medal in Olympic history Monday night, leaving the field behind in a drizzle to win the 400-meter gold by more than a half-second.

The 19-year-old James, the reigning world champion and a two-time NCAA champion for the University of Alabama, finished in 43.94 seconds.

Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic earned the silver in 44.46, giving that country its second medal of the London Games shortly after Felix Sanchez won the 400-meter hurdles.

Lalonde Gordon of Trinidad and Tobago got the 400 bronze.

The U.S. had won the past seven Olympic titles in the men's 400, dating to 1984, but none of the three American entrants qualified for Monday's final. That included 2008 champion LaShawn Merritt, who pulled up with an injury in his opening heat.

^^^ As true as it can get Skidz.

I think you mixing up the 400 metre flat with the 400 metre hurdles. Felix Sanchez won the 400 metre hurdles. Jehue Gordon was 6th in the race.

I think we can take 3rd place behind Cuba and Jamaica by the end of the Olympics.

I being realistic here. Our two girls will make the finals in the 200m but our real chance of medals will be in the relays, the 4x100 and 4x400 men and the 4x100m women. The women does not have a 4x400m relay squad.

Trust me, those are our best shots at medals. We won an extra one with Lalonde Gordon today. Everything else before and including today would have been extremely difficult for a T&T athlete to get on the podium.
