8 Bayern Munich players listed on Euro squad!!!!!!!1

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... nary-squad
Germany confirm preliminary squad
27-man party named by Joachim Low

Germany have named a 27-man preliminary squad for the European Championship.

Joachim Low has named a familiar-looking party which also includes injured Arsenal stopper Per Mertesacker.

Low admits that he and his staff have been in constant contact with Arsenal over Mertesacker - who is recovering from an ankle injury - and he will be joining them for the pre-tournament training camp in Italy.

"We are in constant contact. He has been training with the team again. By flying with the team to Sardinia he must be at a competition level," he said.

Low has also named two uncapped players in the shape of Schalke starlet Julian Draxler and Borussia Moenchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The main omissions from the squad were Christian Trasch, Simon Rolfes and Dennis Aogo.
Preliminary squad in full:

Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Borussia Monchengladbach), Tim Wiese (Werder Bremen), Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover); Jerome Boateng, Holger Badstuber, Philipp Lahm (all Bayern Munich), Per Mertesacker (Arsenal), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund), Benedikt Howedes (Schalke), Marcel Schmelzer (Borussia Dortmund); Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira (both Real Madrid), Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Bastian Schweinsteiger (all Bayern Munich), Marco Reus (Borussia Monchengladbach), Mario Goetze, Ilkay Gundogan (Borussia Dortmund), Sven Bender (Borussia Dortmund), Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen), Andre Schuerrle (Bayer Leverkusen), Julian Draxler (Schalke); Lukas Podolski (Cologne), Cacau (Stuttgart), Mario Gomez (Bayern Munich) and Miroslav Klose (Lazio)

Borussia Dortmund 5 Bayern 2
Out-of-sorts FCB downed by effective BVB
12.05.2012

Poland hitman Robert Lewandowski hit a hat-trick on a black day for out-of-sorts Bayern as Borussia Dortmund completed the first domestic double in their history with a 5-2 DFB Cup final victory.

The 75,708 capacity crowd at the venerable Olympic Stadium in Berlin saw Premier League-bound Shinji Kagawa open the scoring after just three minutes, but Arjen Robben buried a few ghosts from the league season with a 25th-minute penalty equaliser.

Mats Hummels restored Dortmund’s lead with the second penalty of the match and Lewandowski made it 3-1 in a disastrous run-up to the break for Jupp Heynckes’ men, the on-fire Pole adding his side’s fourth just before the hour. Bayern never gave up and Franck Ribery pulled one back with 15 minutes to go, but the game was finally up nine minutes from time when Lewandowski headed home Dortmund’s fifth.

The only possible response for Heynckes and his men now is to clear their minds of the defeat as fast as possible and regroup in time for next Saturday’s last shot at silverware this season, the Champions League final against Chelsea at the Allianz Arena a week from today.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... gba-threat
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer believes his side must stop Didier Drogba if they are to win the UEFA Champions League.

The German giants meet Chelsea in the final of Europe's premier club competition at their own Allianz Arena stadium on Saturday.

The Blues stunned holders Barcelona to beat them 3-2 on aggregate in the semi-final, after a memorable backs-to-the-wall defensive effort when reduced to 10 men in the Nou Camp.

But Neuer expects the London side to adopt a more attacking approach against Bayern.

"I don't think they are going to be as defensive against us as they were against Barcelona."
Manuel Neuer
Quotes of the week
"Chelsea are tactically very well-schooled and they showed that in both games against Barcelona," said the Germany international.

"I don't think they are going to be as defensive against us as they were against Barcelona.

"That is not to say they will go all-out attack, but they will probably play a controlled attacking style."

And the 26-year-old stopper has identified Drogba as the danger man for a Bayern side robbed of defenders Holger Badstuber and David Alaba, as well as holding midfielder Luiz Gustavo, through suspension.

"He is a very good striker and has a strong physical presence and he knows how to put himself about," added the former Schalke man.

"We have seen this season in the Champion League how dangerous he is."

Remote Record
No illusions

The German side will pose an attacking threat of their own, with striker Mario Gomez already having passed the 40-goal mark this season.

But Gomez is under no illusions as to the task ahead of him.

"We know they are a very strong team with lots of experience and players who have been around at the highest level for up to 15 years," he said.

"They are in the final because they deserve to be here."

Bayern will be the first side to play the final in their own stadium during the Champions League era and Gomez claims the city is buzzing ahead of the showdown.

"This is the only thing people are talking about," he added.

"The anticipation is huge. We are beginning to realise now how big this is, having the Champions League final in our own city.

"There is a special atmosphere and everybody in the club is looking forward to this game."

Last chance

Saturday is Bayern's last chance to win silverware this season after Borussia Dortmund beat them to both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal.

And Neuer believes the Bavarian side must make home advantage count.

"We are beginning to realise now how big this is, having the Champions League final in our own city."
Mario Gomez
Quotes of the week
"We are not putting ourselves under too much pressure because it is a home game, we have got to use that to our advantage," he said.

"We have the same hotel as before any other home game, we have our own dressing room, we have all we need to feel good and we have got to make the most of that.

"Then we have the fans behind us. We have got to take advantage of this.

"We can't wait for it, it is the highlight of the season and we know that it is getting closer.

"This is the biggest title you can win in club football. This is the biggest highlight of my career so far and, in club football, this is the greatest.

"We deserve to be in the final. We know that it is our biggest game, and a home game with people behind us, and the signs are good for us.

"Everybody wants to get their hands on this trophy."

Raring to go
Fired-up FCB vow to seize ‘historic chance’
18.05.2012

Friday's training session at the Säbener Strasse was closed to the public, but several hundred fans still flocked to the club's headquarters – and this was hours before the first star player arrived. The press conference at the Allianz Arena was a standing-room-only affair. The city is abuzz with feverish excitement and euphoric anticipation. And to cap it all, the sun beat down from Bavarian blue skies. The scene could not be better set for the 2012 Champions League final between Bayern and Chelsea on Saturday evening (Live in English from 8.45 pm CET on FCB.de Web Radio).

“It's a historic chance for us," FCB head coach Jupp Heynckes told a throng of around 200 reporters. Bayern have already made history by becoming the first team to reach the final at their home ground, “but now we're aiming for the crowning glory," Heynckes said. Victory over the Blues would be Bayern's fifth triumph in Europe's elite club competition, making them the joint third most successful club in its history alongside Liverpool and after Real Madrid and AC Milan.
VIDEOS

However, there is a certain football match to be contested first, and Chelsea represent a huge obstacle. “The teams are evenly matched," observed FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Heynckes issued a stern warning: “I don't share this euphoria about us being described as favourites. There are no favourites in a Champions League final. We'd be well advised to stay very humble."

The club captain and vice-captain agreed with the boss. “The team that's knocked out Barcelona in the course of two matches are basically favourites," said Bastian Schweinsteiger. Philipp Lahm expects the match to be decided by “the small things". However, the boss and his two senior players did agree it was “a tiny advantage" to be playing at the Allianz Arena.

Boss expects Chelsea to come at FCB

“We know every blade of grass here," Heynckes remarked, “we must try and maintain our Champions League tradition." FCB have won all seven of their home games in the competition this season. “I'm very, very confident," declared Lahm, “home advantage will make the players more settled." Schweinsteiger contemplated matters from a reverse point of view: “If it was at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea would also say they have a slight edge, because they know the ground and the environment."

It is fair to say that the London team are away from home on this occasion, although their last match on the road ended in a sensational 2–2 draw with ten men against Barcelona. Roberto di Matteo’s men simply set out their stall and defended on that occasion, but will they try the same in Munich? Heynckes does not think so: “Both teams will go for the win. Of course, they'll try and keep it tight, but they'll definitely attack and won't just shut up shop."

Robben declared fit

The experienced Munich coach said he was expecting “a dramatic match". The first priority was “to seal off our own goal," but the question is who will play in defence? Centre-back Holger Badstuber, left-back David Alaba and holding midfielder Luiz Gustavo are all suspended, but the Munich camp remains relaxed about the situation. “We've known about it for a long time and we've adapted," explained keeper Manuel Neuer.

Arjen Robben came down with a cold earlier in the week but has made a full recovery and is fit to face his former club. “I'm assuming he'll play from the start," said Heynckes, who shares the yearning of millions of Bayern fans all over the world for the most prestigious trophy in club football. Captain Lahm had a message for the club’s friends and followers everywhere: “I sense we're totally raring to go."

The big showdown
Champions League final facts and figures
18.05.2012

Bayern face Chelsea at Munich's Allianz Arena on Saturday evening in the biggest football final of the European season, with the winners assuming the mantle of the continent's best team. On the eve of the titanic showdown, fcbayern.de has compiled a catalogue of interesting facts and figures relating to the ‘Final at home’ in the Bavarian capital city.

Fourth final in Munich
The final of the Champions League and its predecessor, the European Champion Clubs’ Cup, has taken place in Munich three times in the past, in 1979, 1993 and 1997. On each occasion, Germany's biggest club was not involved in the competition. For the fourth final in the Bavarian capital, FCB not only entered the Champions League but have made it all the way to the decisive match.

One previous meeting with Chelsea
Bayern and Chelsea have only met once before in competitive action, in the 2004/05 Champions League quarter-finals. The Blues won the home leg in West London 4–2, and although FCB triumphed 3–2 at the Olympic Stadium, the Premier League side went through.
VIDEOS

Superb home record
Bayern are nothing if not hard to beat at the Allianz Arena. FCB have won 13 of their last 14 matches in front of their home crowd, scoring 40 goals and conceding just six. The last defeat dates back to November 2011, a 1–0 reverse against Borussia Dortmund. The stat is near identical in the Champions League, where the Reds have won 13 of the last 14 home fixtures. The most recent loss was last season's Round of 16 tie against Inter Milan (3–2). Overall, FCB have contested 30 Champions League matches at the Arena, losing only three.

FCB’s good record against English teams
The men from Munich have always done well at home to English teams in European competition. Of 16 matches, FCB have won 10 and drawn five, with a single defeat, a 2–1 loss to Norwich City in the 1993 UEFA Cup. Bayern remain undefeated at home to English teams in the Champions League/European Cup.

Chelsea's good record against German teams
Saturday's final will be Chelsea's 14th game against a German club. Of the previous 13 clashes, the Blues have won seven, drawn two and lost four, keeping clean sheets on eight occasions and making the next round in all three knockout ties. However, the men from London have been less impressive on the road with only one win in six away fixtures, a victory in Stuttgart in 2004, to go with one draw and four defeats.

Sharp shooter Gomez
Mario Gomez could end up as the leading scorer in this season's Champions League. The Bayern and Germany striker is currently on 12 goals for the competition, just two behind Barcelona's Lionel Messi. Mario has a stunning total of 20 goals from his last 17 Champions League appearances.

Heynckes aiming for triumph number two
Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes won the Champions League with Real Madrid in 1998, and can become only the third coach to guide two different clubs to the title in its current form. The feat has only been achieved to date by Ottmar Hitzfeld with Bayern and Dortmund, and José Mourinho with Porto and Inter.
