i think what the commentator was saying that he only managed to make the A team thus far.

he has good pace, was hitting 147 kph a few times. additionally he can bat a bit

And put him where? Ahead of Roach, Best, Edwards? He still have some proving to do IMO. His A team returns against Sri Lanka A wasn't exactly mind boggling and a domestic T20 Competition is not the best judge of quality.

Red Steel get a next International player

Jayawardene set to join T&T Red Steel
ESPNcricinfo staff
August 15, 2013

Mahela Jayawardene, the Sri Lanka batsman, is set to join the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League. He tweeted on Thursday morning that he had received a call-up from the franchise.
Jayawardene is expected to fly out to the Caribbean on Thursday afternoon, ahead of T&T's game against the St Lucia Zouks in Kingston on Saturday. "It's going to be a long trip to get over there, but I am looking forward to meeting up with the guys as soon as possible and hopefully helping us secure a berth in the CPL semi-finals this coming weekend," he told ESPNcricinfo. "I've always loved playing cricket in the Caribbean, so I am really looking forward to a short stint with T&T Red Steel."

He will be the second Sri Lanka player to feature in the CPL, with Muttiah Muralitharan turning out for the Jamaica Tallawahs. Jawayardene joins Ross Taylor, Kevin O'Brien and Davy Jacobs as one of the four overseas players on the team. Australian batsman Aaron Finch had earlier withdrawn from the squad to lead Australia A on their tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.

T&T, usually the powerhouse of regional T20 cricket in the Caribbean, suffered a poor start to the franchise-based CPL, losing three consecutive games before producing two wins. With two games to go in the league phase of the tournament, they sit fifth out of six teams on the points table. Their remaining matches are this weekend, against St Lucia - the only team below them on the points table - on Saturday and the Jamaica Tallawahs on Sunday.

Yes! Roach and Edwards haven't played any T20 for the WI this year mainly because of their inconsistency and tendency to be expensive, our best fast bowler in this format, Rampaul is too injury prone...time for some new blood!

Everybody strengthening squads apparently

Malinga joins Guyana in CPL
Nagraj Gollapudi
August 15, 2013

Lasith Malinga has joined the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the last stage of the Caribbean Premier League. Malinga will replace Pakistan allrounder Mohammad Hafeez, who will leave after the league stages to play for Pakistan on their Zimbabwe tour, which starts on August 23. The Barbados Tridents have also made a change to their squad, signing Azhar Mahmood to replace Umar Akmal. The allrounder is a sought-after player in most major domestic T20 leagues around the world. He is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket, with 213 wickets from 188 games, behind Alfonso Thomas, Malinga and Dirk Nannes.

Malinga, one of the most lethal fast bowlers in the shorter formats, is the third Sri Lankan to play in the CPL. Muttiah Muralitharan is part of the Jamaica Tallawahs while Mahela Jaywardene is set to join the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel from Thursday. Malinga will be the fourth overseas player for Guyana, who had earlier signed the New Zealand pair of Martin Guptill and James Franklin along with Hafeez in the original squad. The Antigua Hawksbills have confirmed Orlando Peters as a replacement for injured South Africa batsman Justin Kemp. Kemp was ruled out after suffering an injury to his right gluteal muscle.

The contest for the top four places will intensify as the CPL enters its last week. Guyana play Jamaica in an away match at Sabina Park in the first of the two matches on Thursday. They have won three of their five matches so far and are second on the points table behind leaders Barbados, who have played an extra game. In the second match, Antigua Hawksbills, placed fourth in the league, will take on St Lucia Zouks.

Even if I haven't adopted the Red Steel team as formal representation for T&T,congrats are in order for last 3 performances.
As Mr Lara noted ....they dont have superstars, but if they can play as a team their performance would be quite good.
T20 cricket has traditionally been played (T&T style) by smart use of delivery pace and turning slower balling.Let the batsmen make the pace from the bat if they want to make competitive totals.
BTW,a more subdued and constructive captain Bravo as compared to a over confident and abrasive Pollard demonstrates the value of keeping ones head in the right place.
The opening negative pressure on Bravo has yielded results (hopes he dont get swell headed now) whilst the Trident early success may have sent Polly into some dysfunctionalism.

The Zouks are out of it.

If the Hawksbills win their match against the Amazon Warriors tonight, then Red Steel must defeat the Tallawahs tomorrow in order to advance to the semis. However if they lose, we go through.

Match starts at 8:00 p.m.

^And Jayawardene make 1 yes, but it was his first game and he had very little time to acclimatise. Let's see what he does in the semifinal. Speaking of which:

Semifinal 1: Red Steel vs Amazon Warriors: Aug 22 @ 8 p.m. - Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad.
Semifinal 2: Tridents vs Tallawahs: Aug 23 @ 8 p.m. - Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad.

On one of those talk shows last night, the topic of ticket scalping was discussed. Apparently it has been quite prevalent during this tournament and moreso with respect to games held at the Queen's Park Oval.

Chalk one up for the entrepreneurial spirit...:|
