but it appears they did have information leading to it so some attempt could have been made to see the recipient

Cheques can be dropped off by courier. Documents can be emailed and "signed" and dropped off by courier.

A broker never has to meet a consignee unless a issue arises.

And if it's a serious issue....the consignee disappears.

A broker can also be given authorisation to deal with everything from the beginning....and the innocent broker could get tie up

Thats how it is though...anyone could call a broker and email them documents and say they want to hire them...no broker cares about knowing them before hand

probably depends on the cargo company and maybe so when rates were very low to ship a container so they don’t care what jumping up

the cargo company i deal with has customer reps who came to see you from time to time

it is clearly a weak link in the chain and maybe prospective shipping customers need to do a kyc procedure like the banks and insurance companies
