Limed there many a Friday back in the day.
So here is my first story in this group.
Today at approximatley 09:10hrs, I went to Atlantic Plaza in Pt. Lisas with a colleague to purchase some aloo pies from a vendor who cooks and sells from the back of a van parked just inside the exit gate of the mall.
While there a TTPS X-Trail (PCY 8428), with three uniformed officers inside, drove into the exit of the mall against the flow of traffic.
After parking, one of the officers alighted the vehicle and came across to the vendor to purchase a meal. I approached the young officer (probably late twenties) and greeted him with "Good Morning Sir". He responded in kind. I then proceeded to advise him that I had noted that his vehicle had entered the mall through an exit and against the flow of traffic.
I asked if he was aware of that. His terse response was "Yeah". I then asked him if he thought that action was appropriate and safe. The response that I received shocked my colleague and I.
The officer told me to mind my own business, and that he was not there to look for friends. He then went on to indicate that if I had a problem with it, I should take it up with the Police Complaints Authority. I really did not expect that type of response.
I expected that he might have admitted he was wrong, and apologise. Instead, it was what we call a"wrong and strong" attitude. His attempt was to silence me in a way most bullies try to silence their victims.
This is a classic example of why crime is out of control in our country. Those charged with the upholding of the law, are actually breaking it with impunity when it suits their needs. If these officers cannot be trusted with the small things, how are they to be trusted with the large things. Please do not get me wrong.
The TTPS has many good, in fact great officers who put their lives on the line daily to protect people like you and I.
The problem is the few borderline criminals who drag the service into disrepute. I am hoping that with the assistance of people like you and I, we are able to highlight cases of abuse of power and mischief in public office, and share them with the powers that be, in an effort to take back our country one post at a time.
Please feel free to post your thoughts, pro or con.
Like the police officer today, i want you to mind your business, while at the same time recognising that the future of Trinbago is your own business.
