Really cant see what others have stated here.
The 'medalist' was in right lane a good 6 seconds and in the process of overtaking.
The lancer driver come up on the medalist at what appears to be a high rate of speed on the shoulder and tries to cut into lane.
What I find instructive is the vehicle from which the video was taken actually had time to come to a full stop when the medalist after being hit came to an abrupt stop.
Apparently even with a good 6 seconds notice the lancer just didn't feel like using any brakes.
The video makes good evidence.

Good info. I always wondered how that was handled. And yeah... all three drivers was on sh!t. Look like something out of three stooges.

IT was a lucky escape for three soldiers aboard a cargo truck and the driver of the panel van crushed by the truck as it overturned on the Solomon Hochoy Highway this afternoon at a spot that has been the scene of dozens of road deaths over the years.

All four climbed out of the wrecks with only minor injuries.

The 1.45p.m. crash happened under the Claxton bay overpass and is causing traffic chaos as commuters prepare to make the drive from work to home.

Police said that the top of the trailer struck one of the beams of the overpass.

The impact caused the truck and trailer to overturn, hitting the panel van, which was pushed into the highway's metal barriers.

The trailer, converted into a workspace, was empty, the Express was told.

Minister of National Security Edmund Dillon who was passing by stopped and spoke with the injured men, who were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Officers of the Highway Patrol Division and Couva Police Station responded and diverted traffic onto the Claxton Bay exit and back onto the north bound lane of the highway

Why we so surprised though?? I'm sure we've seen worse where men cut straight from the filter lane straight onto the overtaking lane and then sit there at 60 km/h or so, most comfortable and acting oblivious when we give them lights to move over..

That sounds funny for some reason. It's a normal 40ft container office on a normal trailer. 40ft container trailer trucks pass under that flyover everyday. Which beam he struck exactly?

Unless they meant column... idk nah.

I could be mistaken, but I think that flyover is slightly lower than the others, I remember when certain loads were being moved they couldn't pass under that one and had to use the ramp. Maybe this container was mounted on a high trailer, some non airbag trucks have a higher rear.

Unless they really hit a column

I was looking at the trailer on its side and it seems like a regular trailer with a 40ft container on top. But I know these things lean while turning and that column on the left real close to the road so if he was overtaking on the left it might be possible for the trailer to lean and touch the column. I also know some people call everything a beam so they think they bridge made up of horizontal and vertical beams

Over pass being slightly lower than the others. What is the height restriction for vehicles in general?

This morning I looked at the beams overhead and saw there are some dents as evidence that the container hit it under this overpass. Hope the integrity of the structure was not compromised.
