The new EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

Image

The new EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM – Canon’s essential, high-quality, telephoto zoom lens for professionals

5th January 2010 – Canon today adds to its acclaimed L-series with the launch of the new EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM telephoto zoom lens. The lens launches as the successor to the immensely popular EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, offering improved performance in every area.

True to the L-series’ heritage, the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM delivers optical excellence in the most challenging situations. As well as a revamp of the internal optical system, the lens has also been structurally re-developed as a direct result of user feedback, making it as robust and reliable as it is optically advanced.

“Reuters’ photographers have used the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM for a number of years and it allows photographers a great level of flexibility,â€

Hi guise.
I'm thinking of replacing my mid range kit lens with the 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC MACRO.

The cons are acceptable to me. Is it worth paying the difference of almost $100 for the 'OS' version ? ( optical stabilizer)

Have you looked at the Tamron 17-50 Non VC it's 449.00 at B&H , Constant 2.8 and the IQ blows out the Sigma .

No I haven't the reviews I read wer for that range 17-70 lenses only. What do you feel about their 28-75 2.8?

.:PROZAC:.., the first question should be: What do you want the lens to do?

Miracles? lol
I want to use it for shooting around the 38-50mm or regular portriat range and hope the 2.8 will help in light situations. For the enxt few months of winter it will e alot of indoors with spotty lighting.
Down the line I'll look into the 10-24( my eye there but not the wallet)

Good stuff Bacon!

If I were you, I'd work hard to get a really fantastic shot of that sunrise, through the buildings. The framing is awesome. What I'd give to shoot a scene like that.
