No built in calibration on your receiver; no problem. Minidsp is coming out with this unit in a few months. Its similar to the processors us SQ guys use in our cars.

http://www.minidsp.com/images/documents ... anoAVR.pdf

eq, time alignment, and independent crossover on every channel. WIN WIN WIN!

ok but the image you posted shows Samsung got full marks for overall customer satisfaction.

I am talking picture quality - Samsung and lead in that feild - save for ELITE which was always the king of picture quality, is now made by Sharp but is still exorbitantly expensive.

most people who buy a TV looking for top picture quality, accurate colour and inky blacks are going to be using the panel for picture alone and running all their audio through a reciever - the TV is just a monitor of sorts.

I disagree. Just because you're gonna set a tv down and never move it doesnt mean durability isnt an issue. Depending on the build quality of the internals and the overall design, that would determine how long it lasts with everyday use. So you dont have to drop your tv to test how durable it is. I think any tv when dropped will suffer damage.

If you love samsung, its your money. Buy it and be happy.
funny that you harped on dropping the TV and didn't pick up on the flimsy battery cover

don't dig a horrors if the home theater-philes and review sites like CNET are preferring Samsung and Panasonic - you buy your Sony and be content :)

But...that..... is..... just one part of the graph
Why does this seem like one of your apple vs x,y,z arguments

I picked up on it but chose not to respond to it.. because televisions dont have battery covers. Thought that was obvious.
When did I even say Samsung's picture quality wasnt good. You keep driving this point like im disagreeing with you.

[sarcasm]What a compelling argument [/sarcasm]
Yes, Ill enjoy my relatively worry free tv. 8-)

Just need some advice. Not really a fan of how stereos look on tv stands, so I was wondering what are my options in getting something reasonable that looks neat but could get the job done. Need something to basically play radio and the occasional music from cd/usb. Not for any loud music really. Was thinking about a simple home theatre system. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks.

i think w hat you need is a stereo receiver
but you will need a separate cd/usb player
and the combo may not be as cheap as a small stereo system

my uncle bought a samsung from Pmart for 1600 with detachable boxes and its pretty loud for what it is

yeah, if you want something good invest in separates

may cost more in the long, but a decent 2.1 will sound amazing!

Have a pair of dayton audio silk tweeters too

Build the boxes and get a decent receiver to start with

doesnt sound like he wants to go to high end to be honest,he did mention radio and the occasional usb files.

Pricesmart has those samsung stereo kits which look and sound pretty cool for the price.

a receiver would be a good idea to start and 2 floorstanders, you can build a pair of those on the cheap that'll rival alot of crap produced by so called *pro HT brands. Maybe 3k. Those components pios have 'll do ya good-or 2 of those newer faital fullranges with a softy to pick up the sizzle.

the hardest thing when building homemade cabinets is getting the crossover correctly
and without proper xo points it may sound like crap

the easiest starter point will be a receiver with sub out
cd player with usb
pair of daytons b652's
and a sub

That's the beauty of fullrange, no crossovers, pure untouched sound. But its not for everyone and all musical tastes.

In my kitchen I put an old sony stereo receiver, and a pair of paradigm atoms that I had looong time and repaired. For source, I use an ipad with a headphones jack and tune in to internet radio or youtube.

Works nice, and sounds great.

Actually using a 3" fital mid in a tweeter less 2way.

I havnt been able to really critically listen as the mid bass still new (Silverflutes 6.5) and breaking in but those fitals really havnt left me feeling like I'm missing anything.

Quick vid:

http://youtu.be/1bxhtO8FlPs

I have them playing 2k up. Really not utilizing the low end capability of the fital but my hu limits me there.

As a full range, 4fe200 is the best compromise imo

well, if you could get a demo of one and you like how it sounding, go for it! You have to excuse some of us. When we hear stereo, we think about a whole other dimension.
