IT all started in 1962 and continued to get worse until 1981, had we known then, we should have barred all those immigrants and Trinidad today would have been so much nicer

Barbados AG suggests that Barbadians can take comfort that the island’s crime is no where as bad as T&T’s

images-6Barbados’s Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite has suggested that Barbadians can take comfort in the fact that the island’s crime situation is no where near as bad as that of neighbouring Trinidad and Tobago, which has recorded over 80 murders in just two months.

AG Brathwaite made the statement while speking to constituents at a branch meeting in Belair, St. Philip.

As he made reference to a video, allegedly of an incident in the twin island republic, which has been making the rounds on social media, Mr. Brathwaite said, in Barbados there is an acceptance and or recognition in Barbados that crimes are solved.

In the video, the brazen attack occurs in broad daylight and the victim is shot multiple times by two men.

Mr. Brathwaite added that this would not happen in Barbados, because crimes are solved and perpetrators are locked up for breaking the law.

Mr. Brathwaite noted that one can see this kind of behaviour only where people believe they can act with impunity break the law and take life with no consequences.

The Barbados AG insisted that in his country 90 to 95 per cent of crimes are solved in particular homicides.

He denied speculation of a runaway crime stating there was a misperception of the situation in the country.

Last year, a total of 30 murders were reported on the island.

Body in the river, bag over head

The decomposing body of a man was found floating in a river in Barrackpore on Wednesday.

Homicide detectives responded to reports by an anonymous caller that the man was spotted at around 5.45pm.

The river is located at Cunjal Road South.

Police said the man was bareback, clad only in blue trousers. A crocus bag was wrapped around his head.

The body, which bore marks of violence to the head, chest and back, was retrieved and taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James.

Police are now seeking the public's assistance in identifying the East Indian man, approximately five feet, seven inches tall and brown complexion.

Insp Ganga, Sgt Lewis, Sgt Ramlogan of the Southern Division Homicide and crime scene investigators visited the scene.

Bandits terrorise beach house vacationers in Mayaro
http://www.trinidadexpress.com/20170815 ... -in-mayaro

WARNING that they will not stop, gunmen robbed at least three families staying a beach houses in Mayaro at the weekend.

Police confirmed that persons were robbed of cash, cellphones and jewellery at a beach house at Plaisance Road.

The family was liming outside their apartment when gunmen walked in and demanded they hand over their valuables.

The Express was told that at least two other families, staying at beachfront guest houses were robbed on Saturday night.

One of the victims posted a warning on social media. He said, “People please be careful my family and I got robbed at gun point in Mayaro last night. We lost everything. Last night alone had 3 robberies. They told us they won't stop robbing people.”

Mayaro MP Ruston Paray said he was deeply concerned by the levels of criminal activities throughout the country.

And the latest spate of robberies and break ins at visitor areas was troubling, he said.

Paray said, “While there is considerable policing of hot spot areas, the criminal element is finding cooler spots to engage in their nefarious activities. This spate of robberies and break ins especially in our visitor areas is troubling. This drives a stake into our tourism sector.”

Paray pleaded with the police to increase patrols and called on guest house owners to ensure properties were secured.

“I am pleading with guest house owners to ensure that properties are adequately lit and perimeter surroundings cleaned for the safety of their guests. I will be engaging the leadership of the Police Eastern Division to ramp up activities in the area to deal with this and other security issues in the constituency,” he said.
