for a dedicated movie room I think a projector is perfect, but for a daily TV room I don't think it is practical.pete wrote:Where in Trinidad can you get projector screens 16:9 or 16:10?
What advice wrt ambient light would you guys say for using a projector? Not worth it, can't see anything during the day etc?
LED projectors supposed to have much better lamp life than bulbs but aren't as bright. Is the stress of bulbs only lasting 3-4000hrs worth how much brighter they are?

good quality plasma panels are getting rare. Even Kuro Elite (which was the defacto quality standard of best showing TVs are now using LED instead of plasma. I really enjoy my Samsung plasma and I think LED still can't compare to the picture quality of a top plasma panel.Skanky wrote:RIP Panasonic Plasma TVs.

Picked up an ST60 this year and the picture quality is amazing out of the box and it's even better when calibrated. Now I know what all the hype was about Panasonic plasmas.

most 9.1 receivers come with multi zone capability, so the extra 2 or 4 channels (depending on if you use it as 7.1 or 5.1) can be used in another room e.g. you are watching a movie in 5.1 in the TV room while you listen to music or radio out in the back yard patio or in the kitchen.fouljuice wrote:Duane 3NE 2NR wrote:Most movies are done in true 5.1 anyway, even if there is a DTS-MA 7.1 track it may be produced by digitally manipulating the 5.1 original.
So I guess 9.1 is too much then?
HTIAB, home theater in a box systems are good in that they make it easy to add in a TV and you have surround sound. This one also makes any TV into a smart TV by adding netflix, facebook etc. The problem with these is expandability. YOu often cannot upgrade the speakers since the subwoofer sometimes powers the satellites or the player is the receiver and amp in one and it has limited inputs and outputs.fouljuice wrote:http://goo.gl/lWjorV
the receiver is what makes the system 5.1 or 7.1 or 9.1, unless you buy a HTIAB which I mentioned above.fouljuice wrote:What is currently a good performance/price 5.1 (or 7.1) system? (With or without a receiver)
