Well the Kuro plasma not in production again - that is top top top picture quality.

The new "Kuro" is LED and made by Sharp and still pricey. They supposed to be very good.

The problem with LCD is that it's back or side lit whereas plasma the actual pixel IS the light which is why plasmas can get that great dynamic range and inky blacks.

Found this link which may help in selecting your home theatre equipment:

Not sure how reliable the reviews are but seems to be fair.

not sure if this is the right thread to ask but does anyone know what companies locally provide home automation solutions?

simple stuff like turning on and off lights at prescribed times (if can control over wifi would be an asset)

basically looking for a option that doesn't require much hard wiring

those x10 devices any good/useful locally? or is that old stuff?

^cant say if there is,but i wouldn't be surprised if it'll cost you 10x cheaper to research and do it yourself.
Check out stuff from vantage controls, read alot of good reviews about them a while ago.

apparently z-wave is the way to go for wireless home automation.
no hard wiring necessary, each device functions as a repeater

http://www.z-wave.com/modules/xoopsfaq/ ... at_id=1#q2

and best of all for me, android app

www.control4.com and www.z-wave.com are two very popular choices for home automation

Fellas, looking to make the switch from lcd to projector.
Read a couple articles on the general idea of things and i dont seem to have much of a problem with it.

looking to get a Benq w1070

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A2T6X0K

OR

Benq w1080st

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B11C6HW

Which is the best buy?
Is it in fact a good buy?
Any advice for someone now going into projectors?

Reason is im sick of the tiny screen sizes of lcd/led

I'm currently using a BenQW710ST on a custom 100 inch screen. Seating distance is approximately 14 feet away. Primary video source is a sony bluray player. I have absolutely no regrets in buying the 710. HD playback is excellent and to my (albeit inexperienced) eyes show no difference in brightness and saturation when compared to traditional lcd large format tv's. Its currently in a moderately bright room (haven't measured lumens as yet) and i have the lamp set to eco. With the lights completely off, its brilliant! Things to note, it took a bit of an adjustment period wrt just getting up and leaving it on as you would a tv. You always have to keep lamp life as a factor in usage. And there is a bit of a startup lag compared to tv's but you'll get accustomed to it. (it generally comes up way before Netflix loads in any event)

My recommendation is go for it!

Advance electronic systems Ltd does home automation. They can do the type of stuff you see on MTV cribs. They deal with Crestron systems among other brands which you can use to control everything from home theater to lighting etc.

Thanks for the input man. Im considering the short throw but my only problem is mounting it. I gues im only really limited to a tabletop with wires on the floor.. where did you put yours?

Also did you have to pay vat & duties to ship in?

I have it mounted on the ceiling using this universal projector mount http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00892RUTA/ref=oh_details_o02_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 approximately four feet away from the screen. If your going this route, be sure to check your applicable vertical offset so you make sure you get the right length of mount.

I paid VAT but no duties when i brought it in.

I bought these 2 items from Sony last year....

http://store.sony.com/p/55%26quot%3B-Cl ... ot%3B-diag.)-HX850-Internet-TV/en/p/KDL55HX850

http://store.sony.com/p/Sony-3D-Blu-ray ... BDVN890W/Z

I have always been impressed with the quality that Sony has, and these 2 perform way above my expectations. The 3d on the tv really pops, and for a small bass box, that thing packs a punch!

I good for the next 10 years......I hope....

my initial plan will cost about 4000.00
which includes a dayton ho 15" and the crown xls 1500 and that project kinda on hold for now

either of those will cost 2-2500 landed

Well for one the polk will have almost double the rms of the bic!(based on public specs)
It's cheaper but @ the same time heavier so may even cost more!
It doesn't seem to like more than 125hz which means you got to have good mid bass from your stereo's, but you may gain some on the lower end.
The polk is a tad bit smaller!
And they both got good reviews!

From skimming the surface aspects, i may have chosen the polks...
