perhaps because that one had the epicenter on land as opposed to west of trinidad

Ahhh! At least some one remembers that big one. Started off as the usual lateral movement but after. 5-6 seconds the earth started to dip.It would have occurred sometime september-october 2006

The magnitude of the earthquake which occurred at 9:08am local time near the north coast of Trinidad on 29/09/06 has been revised to 5.8. The preliminary magnitude was given as 5.5.
Aftershock north of Trinidad
On Friday afternoon 29th September at 2:23 p.m. local time, an earthquake occurred near Churapa Bay on the North coast of Trinidad. This event is an aftershock following the 9:08am earthquake. A preliminary location for this event is 10.83°N 61.43°W. Thus far, the event was reported as felt throughout Trinidad, Tobago, St. Vincent and Grenada. There have been reports of three injuries in south Trinidad but no reports of damage thus far.
With earthquakes of this magnitude scientists will expect aftershocks - other earthquakes - of similar or smaller magnitude. Unfortunately, earthquakes cannot be predicted and we cannot say when these aftershocks may occur. Please note that scientists from the Seismic Research Unit HAVE NOT issued a warning that a larger earthquake will occur later on today.
Please note that these magnitude 5.5 and 5.1 earthquakes are not large enough to cause a tsunami. Tsunami warnings HAVE NOT been issued for the Caribbean.
