Rain on that new piece of highway is going to be a disaster, there’s absolutely no drainage.

how has traffic been both morning and evenings now compared to before work had started?

did the third lane to/from chase village make a difference? when i head out after 5, i see the southbound highway, at most times, free flowing

Wasn't there a plan to create a roundabout and exit to the highway south of the flyover from the road opposite Medford? Whatever happened to that?

Yup. Plenty of our traffic is people who can’t stay left. The more lanes you give them, the more they stay right. Since they widen the highway the left lane is empty so I just run up that side most times

the new lanes are bumpy because the new lanes use the old lanes but shifted and slanted across the old lanes
if they put a straight edge across the road you would see slight indentations where the tires made on the old lanes which you don’t feel as they parallel to old lanes
so new lanes driving across those indentations
plus the sloppy paving of the new lane

Sinanan happy with south highway upgrades, promises more

Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan welcomed the relief the highway expansion in Chaguanas has brought to commuters. Speaking with the media on Tuesday during a site visit, Sinanan assured that additional upgrades will further ease traffic congestion.

The next phase will extend from Chase Village to Freeport, aiming to complete three lanes to San Fernando. Sinanan also announced that all pedestrian walkovers across Trinidad and Tobago will be upgraded with new lighting for safety. The next set of traffic alleviation measures is scheduled for this year.

PURE (Programme for the Upgrade of Road Efficiency) Director Hayden Phillip outlined the five-phase plan, noting that the first phase at Soogrim Trace has already improved traffic flow. The next major step involves constructing a roundabout at Mulchan Sieuchan Road to redirect vehicles off the overpass. The government is in the process of acquiring the necessary land for this development.

Senator Richie Sookhai, Minister in the Ministry of Works, highlighted the positive impact on Chaguanas East and Chaguanas West. “Our focus is on sustainable solutions that will bring long-term traffic relief,” he said.

Sinanan confirmed additional measures to reduce traffic in Chaguanas. Phillip explained that the first phase involved widening the roadway at Soogrim Trace and building a roundabout near the Ministry of Agriculture and the Divali Nagar site. Another roundabout will be constructed at Endeavour Road, allowing northbound motorists to enter the highway without using the overpass.

“This project had a proper traffic study and was on the drawing board for a while. The designs are completed, and land acquisition is in progress,” Phillip said.

I was confused by this as well. I suspect theyre actually referring to mulchan seuchan rd, which is supposed to be the next phase before the 3 flyovers.

Does anyone know if they plan to fix the chaguanas shoulder and maybe use as a third lane? Appears to be the most common sense move atm

Now that the highway is three lanes, how about an exit from the Chaguanas Old Southern Main road to the SHH northbound (somewhere between JMMB & Mall of America)?

I noticed that all the concrete barriers to turn off from the SHH to factory road have been replaced with temporary barriers, so was hoping that this was a sign leading up to the above suggestion.

Between Chaguanas flyover and Chase Village flyover (not counting the flyovers themselves), there is one entrance / exit for traffic southbound (Brentwood). But there is nothing between said flyovers northbound. And those who are familiar with the geography of the roads between those two points northbound would know just how critical it is to open an additional extrance / exit.

My 2 cents:

Forget additional roundabout in Endeavour or wherever it is dey planning it.

Replace factory road traffic lights with a roundabout, providing an entrance to / from SHH northbound , and build a flyover between factory road and Brentwood.
Most if not all traffic in Chaguanas would done with this.

Every day, thousands of commuters travel along the Chaguanas to Chase Village segment of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway. Through the work of our Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency (PURE) Unit, we are demonstrating our commitment to enhancing both the safety and quality of their daily commute along this vital stretch.
We've opened additional lanes (northbound and southbound) from Chaguanas to Chase Village, easing congestion and reducing travel time.
Further upgrades currently underway include:
• Construction of earth-retaining structures, including a reinforced sand
embankment and modular block wall, to stabilise the surrounding slopes
• Milling and paving at the Chaguanas Main Road intersection, recently
completed to ensure a smoother drive
• Upcoming drainage upgrades along the Chaguanas Main Road to improve
water run-off, reduce flooding risks, and protect the roadway in the long term

up to now they cant fix traffic on chaguanas main road, traffic on the who caroni savanna road from freeport to munroe road, they cant fix traffic by pricesmart and endeavour connector road but they want to fix traffic passing chaguanas. we need more exits from freeport to munroe road to exit to the north bound highway. simple as that. with yellow code in power and we still losing.
