just add up the required amperage of each device to be connected to it and you will be able to tell what you need.Xecutive wrote:In selecting the right protection device, do I buy one with a particular Joule rating? What specifications should I look for in achieving optimum power protection and clean power output for all the various equipment being connected?
Unless your device has a hard drive like a PS3 or Xbox then there is no real need for a battery backup IMO.Xecutive wrote:Also, I noticed that the panamax 5400m doesn't have a battery backup. Should I be concern about getting one with ups or is it not necessary?

Panamax has the MX5102 with built in battery backup on 2 of its 10 outlets.

A UPS would be cheaper but it wont be able to run your TV, amp and sub for very long anyway.
if you want you can get the Panamax or other filtration and voltage regulator and then get a small UPS for the PS3.
remember a UPS only switches to battery power when power gets cut. A UPS is not a voltage regular or filter
I believe the better setup is to have the UPS before the voltage regulator, however a UPS capable of running ALL your equipment in a power outage long enough for you to shut everything down will be every expensive - which is why I suggested a small UPS placed between the Panamax and the PS3.Xecutive wrote:Duane 3NE 2NR wrote:Unless your device has a hard drive like a PS3 or Xbox then there is no real need for a battery backup IMO.

So I can connect the small UPS as an intermediate device between the voltage regulator and the PS3/Xbox? I think I read somewhere in a review that someone was having difficulty doing this because there was some conflict with the voltage regulator detecting the ups and wasn't powering on.

ps. I don't have a UPS on my PS3
maybe if I had a HTPC I'd be more inclined in getting a UPS
So I can plug my small UPS into my voltage regulator and get combined voltage regulation, surge protection, and UPS power for my PS3 and computer??Duane 3NE 2NR wrote:however a UPS capable of running ALL your equipment in a power outage long enough for you to shut everything down will be every expensive - which is why I suggested a small UPS placed between the Panamax and the PS3.
I was told something similar to this by a few people in IT as well, that I should not plug a UPS into a voltage regulator/surge protector.Xecutive wrote:So I can connect the small UPS as an intermediate device between the voltage regulator and the PS3/Xbox? Finally, got the Yamaha receiver...now to compile the other speakers. Will post pics of the completed system soon, hopefully.
