BB10 does not use BIS unless you want to use it, so Email, BBM etc go directly to the internet and bypasses the BIS server at Bmobile/Digicel.

BBM in BB10 has nothing to do with being ported to other devices, it might blow your mind to know that certain BIS services were once available on non-BB devices via ------- BlackBerry Connect,

So does this mean BBM can be used on a regular data plan or wifi?

I just wanted to add that what Khafra said is 99% correct your provider could be a dick and force their own BB APN ( make you get a BB plan even tho there is no real BIS with BB10) Bell Canada and Virgin Mobile (owned by Bell in Canada) is the only company doing it so far but hard to say till world wide launch complete. This has nothing to do with BlackBerry directly and everything to do with a greedy phone company wanting more money. I hope they are the only ones doing this crap... Brand new Z10s have been used on wifi for BBM without ever having a sim inserted...

TLDR?

You don't need a BIS plan, but your Phone company can force you to get one.

BB10 looking good, but BB won't get back its former prominent place.

Android is too far ahead, and Samsung is not the only good Android maker.

Brilliant analysis and excellent logic. I hope someone informed Mozilla (Firefox)and Canonical (Ubuntu) among others, they shouldn't waste their time even trying. What on earth are they thinking they obviously don't know what they are doing. Surely there is only one way to skin a cat and everyone has the same wants & needs in a smartphone OS. Just look at how everybody is making mad money off of android, flooding the market is very sustainable. :|

BB in the pre-Android days had 50% global market share. You think they can get that again?

Android, iOS and Win 7 are all good OSs. BB10 has to compete with these and the issue is how much it can eat into these three's sales.

I honestly don't know about what % they can gain but they dont even need 20% Globally to be successful . let me explain the "smoke and mirrors" in looking at just percentages.

(just example no factual figures)

if they had 50% pre droid but only 5 million people in the world used smart phones then. Now they have 15% market share but the amount of people who use smart phones is at 90 million users. What did they lose nothing because they have way more users than they had.

Android and IOS are just gaining new users faster than BB. This is not end of the world short term as smartphones are not even 50% of mobile phones in the world yet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------/

Android growth IMO is like a economic bubble about to burst only company making any money with it is Samsung and they only have about 27% of ALL smartphone Profits (bada and Android profits combined) even Microsoft makes more directly from Android sales(patents) than most droid phone makers . Everyone is selling at a loss to capture market share and praying for brand loyalty in the long run.

But then for the last two years BlackBerry has also been guilty of this but they have service revenue (BIS?BES fees , APP world sales etc) to recoup with only Apple (Hardware/software sales) can compare in this regard. Google and amazon trying it...(nexus / kindle)

Windows Phone cant even outsell BlackBerry in the US with US media pretty much Dissing anything Berry (the new cool thing to do btw) with a billion dollar Wp8 ad campaign and Nokia sweet phones (solid devices OS is still young I hope MS don't fk up) BB hasn't launched a Flagship phone since 2011 (before bb10 that is and Z10 isn't the flagship Aristo will be).

Change "big time" to "logical" because the "big time" apple fans on this forum wouldn't love anything without an apple logo on it lol

To be honest the apps and games selection right now are actually much better than at launch, especially for games, apart from the apps that come with BB10, I have over 100 apps/games installed at the moment.

I waiting to see what the 10.1 update will bring :)

10.1 i don't expect to be major - the Q10 will launch with 10.1, so i expect more some fine tuning in certain places. The Q10 will start selling maybe late March in the UK/Canada

All i know is the caribbean generally from late march, but i suspect early April since Dominican Republic is the largest mobile market in the caribbean and they will get it first.

I saw someone had asked about it on one of those TSTT facebook pages earlier this month and the answer given was that bmobile will launch it in a few weeks...I feel they lie though.

I don't trust anything from PGA. Plus their after sales service is the worse.

What after sales service? ;/ you does have to give them back your phone every 5000 calls / texts to service?

I'm legit confused.

Anyways I read an article that Blackberry is done for, can't find the link now tho but it has something to do with their largest shareholder selling all his shares back to the company or something so
