^ you don't have to spend much, though a good receiver is a worthwhile investment. The receiver is the heart of of your entire home theater system.

You can get a cheap, good quality receiver like this
Yamaha RX-V371BL 5.1-Channel A/V Receiver
$169.95 and free shipping with Amazon Prime
http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V371BL- ... B004QQXDVC

see the back has 4 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output

It also supports HD audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Your current system only supports Dolby Digital.

you can use this with your TV and existing speakers and upgrade the speakers as you go along

You could also try a cheap fix...use an HDMI splitter

I have one of these somewhere around for cheap

Image

Used it for a few months before I got my rx to connect xbox, ps3 and pc to my monitor

^ that won't help him. His receiver has NO HDMI input, only output.

^picture setting depends on brightness of room really, you could try the preset ones that are online, but those usually are if your room is totally dark

Anybody here have tube gear? Looking into my first tube audio foray with this :
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdet ... er=310-350

Bravo Audio V2 Class A 12AU7 Tube Multi-Hybrid Headphone Amplifier

I plan to use it more like a tube pre most of the time though. Thoughts?

and I have this from before
http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3500-5- ... B0077V88V8

Got my christmas gift a few days ago! I'm trying to deciede if it's worth wall mounting the tv with the samsung slim, or sit on a home theater stand?

I need to connect everything up properly to the Onkyo Receiver and speakers I have ,the Apple TV, and my PS3 and Xbox.

Is the Cable HD package worth it for a 1080p television?

I'm also trying to source some onkyo speaker stands..any suggestions? I see some atlantic on amazon, but not sure if worth it, and how would the center speaker mount exactly?

in the process of doing my DIY sub
Using a T3 Audio 15" sub in 3cubes (net) sealed
sub is 1000rms gonna be powered by an american audio 4000(for now)
I would have loved a ported enclosure to 17hz but couldnt justify that size box to the wife
about 8cubes

may post pics

^ what tops are you matching that with?

IMO better home theater setups only use the subs for LFE (low frequency effects) such as explosions and rumbles. The 5 speakers, especially the front and center, handle the bass and midbass themselves since this is how 5.1 and 7.1 is mixed

You should buy one online (Amazon). You would get it waaaay cheaper than buying it locally.

the thing is, my reciever has a powered sub output, and not a low level
since its the reciever from one of onyko's higher end HTIB's
so im wondering if i will need a high to low level connector

hmmm - usually high-end receivers have LFE and the sub output is NOT powered.
then again HTIABs are not considered high-end

if you want to use a powered HTIAB sub-out on a powered sub, then I think you will need a line-out converter, but since most of them are made for use in car audio, you may need a DC power supply for it.

I wonder though, if your receiver is for a HTIAB, will it be able to run the speakers you want to use on it and will it have the right crossover settings. Most HTIAB setups use the sub to even get midbass since the satellite speakers are not capable of much low frequencies. This might prove real tricky trying to get the right X-over balance between your home-built sub and the Jamo speakers. Might end up sounding very muddy.

the standard line out converters for car audio will work on the speaker output of a home rx once the output is rated to go down to 4 ohm

if not there will be an impedance mismatch and may cause distortion in the output

if the powered output of the rx is more than 50watts there may also have some issues however so far on one of my personal sytems utilizing a car audio line converter i have had no issues

thats the final pics, there were 2 blunders
the entire box supposed to be on the flatter side but i forget to tell the upholstery guy that
so he did it on the wrong side, therefore causing the speaker terminal to be in that direction

the fackin last bolt broke the t nut causing it to just spin free, i got fed up and decided to put silicone to seal the hole and didnt bother trying to remove it

hopefully testing soon
