Sony BDP-S390 Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi (Black)
Image
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006U1 ... 02_s00_i00

Would appreciate some help in getting the projector calibration done as I'm kinda a novice with that.

Lol! Tnx fellas, I still hoping the wife will start back talking to me before Christmas. Lol.

Ru$$ell, i was contemplating buying a center chnnel, but didnt see any spectacular deals. I currently have the B652s and i'm using a pair in series for the center next to each other in a mttm arrangement. pretty pleased with it so far so I'll hold off till next year to upgrade the speakers. (If I can sneak them past the boss) Lol!

Yeah, Lol, got her everything she was hinting about and I'm almost certain she saw those payments on the CC so she'll boil down like bhagi soon. Lol.
WRT the 3d, I'm not really a big fan of 3d, always seem to finish watching a 3d movie with a mild to moderate headache, so 2d ftw for me. The projector is 3d capabe so I'll just spring for a 3d source if the 3d bug takes hold. (although I seriously doubt thats going to happen.)

that projector is 3d capable...he would need a separate converter box or a pc with nvidia 3d or sum.if he had spent an extra 100us, he would of gotten the optoma gt750e which is full 3d...also a short throw projector as well

Had a look at the optoma, but when I fatored in the extra cost of the pj and a 3D source, the $150US extra wasnt worth it for me, who doesnt particularly enjoy 3D content. Prefer to put that towards future speaker upgrades.

i would have done the same myself. imho unless you are into gaming then '3d' isnt worth it atm barring a very few movies. im just waiting till i can afford a couple towers then i good. wish i had the short throw but when i bought mine [2008] i dont think they had those yet :(

Tell your wife while you surround yourself with speakers she ought to surround herself with cooking utensils, in the kitchen.

New to the Home Theater scene, so to start off, i bought this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BV ... 00_s00_i00

Was on sale. Was looking at the HTS 1000 MK111, but the price on the HTS 1600 was better.

Anyone has experience on this model? Also picked this up;

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001F7 ... 00_s00_i00.

My equipment so far:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN40ES610 ... B0076M04QU

Looking at picking up the Pioneer VSX-822k. Already have a set up ONKYO 5.1 Speakers

^ I read the reviews and I'd really like to see what all the ranting is about

is it that much better quality picture and sound than a PS3?

I am seriously contemplating a Oppo BDP-103
http://www.amazon.com/OPPO-BDP-103-Univ ... po+bdp-103

but I dunno if I can justify it

Fascinating talk with Pioneer's Andrew Jones about his speaker designs and about his entry level speakers that has been redesigned. Check it out..interesting.

there are powersellers who offer a service of importing items from Amazon and shipping via sea. Check Raptor and others.

go through some of the first few pages of this thread - use the search for "optical".

Optical is inferior to HDMI. If you have HDMI there is no point in using optical.
Optical cannot support the bandwidth needed for HD audio. Optical cannot support Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and other HD formats found on Bluray discs. HDMI can support his bandwidth and more.

What model LG home theater do you have?

to connect a PS3, the best option is to connect the PS3 to the input of the the receiver of your home theater setup with an HDMI cable. Plug the TV into output of the receiver with another HDMI cable.

Do not connect the PS3 to the TV and then try to send audio from the TV to the receiver / home theater sound system. This will not work properly.

that model does not have HDMI IN, it only has HDMI OUT which goes to the TV. You cannot hook up your PS3 to that via HDMI.

I take it the back of your "receiver" will look like this
Image

If you want proper 5.1 audio, you will have to get a proper 5.1 receiver.

What you can try, is to hook up the PS3 using the RCA connector (red, white and yellow)
Image

plus that into the RCA input on your "receiver" and then connect your TV via HDMI.
The input from the PS3 via the RCA cables will NOT be HD and will only be in stereo, however I see on the LG product page for your product, it says that the "receiver" can upscale to 1080p and will simulate 5.1 from a 2 channel source.

again, if you want proper 5.1 audio and HD video from your PS3, you will have to get a proper 5.1 receiver.
