PNM created Laventille  Laventille around since the 19th century

Tell me what party you support so I can vote the opposite. If a political party find favour with your twisted values, they shouldn't be in office.

when i say laventille, i mean that the people who were brought in initially and promised this and that in the false promises that they would be granted legal status and land etc.

thats the only reason peeennem ever won anything........ we would have been in such a better place in the world if they were never allowed to form in the first place.

Never heard that definition of Laventille :? but you would be hard pressed to find any national of Trinidad whose ancestors 3-5 generations ago didnt come here from some other place on a boat. Trinidad was woefully underpopulated and these immigrants served as willing labour to build the foundations of the country as they migrated from one colony (Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Guyana) to another colony (Trinidad).

Because of them we have other biggest cultural festival and tourism revenue earner, steelpan and numerous national athletes. PNM ruled for 36 years not just because of two constituencies only.

Ease up on the xenaphobia nah, it raising your blood pressure.

Habit7 wrote:I beg to differ actually. Under the NAR the country faced a destructive attempted coup, the UNC's run was terminated with the AG accusing the PM of corruption and he was eventually tried and sentenced but the case was thrown out, and with the PP the verdict is not yet concluded, but with Reshmi, failed SoE, Section 34, international disgraced MoNS...the final verdict not looking too good :( The composite 36 years of PNM brought economic growth, significant reserves and a highly educated workforce. There has been shortcomings like inadequate infrastructure and lack of capability to deal with the regional scourge of a rise in crime, but the successive govt haven't done much better.

It is cool to have your personal political preference based on not liking Rowley's voice or PNM is totally corrupt but my party isn't, but you just end up preaching to the choir. Bring up substantial points based on evidence and let us raise the debate to an informed level, not one based solely on perception.

You put it so eloquently that the untrained observer will believe PNM did not encourage crime, gimme gimme attitude, widespread discrimination, friends and family favouritism etc.

Take a look at history and you will see that other parties has always had to rescue the country from the PNM only for them to come back after and slide through on the hard work of others.

I would still like to know what different Keith Rowley has now than he did when the project manager called him a raging bull. What qualifies him now to be a Prime Minister.

Keith Rowley, like Basdeo Panday will always be best suited to Opposition Leaders. They cannot build or create anything, but can sure as fack tear sheit down and oppose. They yearn and ache to be PM but like Kamla, once it is achieved, they seem not to know exactly what to do with it.

Honestly PP not looking like they will win a 2nd, unless they really pull something special with the rest of this first term.

And it's attitudes like constantly calling people names is what will keep the PNM in opposition.

You need to come with a new tactic than mudslinging.

Actually I went to school in POS, I had a lot of classmates from Laventille, not much different than any other student. In fact one of the most well-to-do classmates was from Laventille, the first time I rode in a Porsche was when his brother came to pick him up (very exciting yet uncomfortable). When ppl hear Laventille it brings up plenty negative thoughts, but it is a large area with several communities like Chaguanas. There are areas that I would cringe at living in and then there are areas that I wouldn't mind, in fact I would love the easier commute to POS.

Well probably the skills he has honed as a good opposition leader will make him a good PM. Kamla didnt do much as an opposition leader to bring down the PNM, it was more Rowley and the Express that did the most work. Sadly the same forces that ushered the PP into office will usher the PNM back, that is the national "fed up"

Panday's administration had a lot of positives, they reformed the postal service, kept crime low, built several stadia on time and budget and unlike the PP they continued the PNM methanol and natural gas plan and it bore fruit in the 2000's. However like today, allegations of corruption over Panday and Dhanraj Singh and party infighting caused their demise and a UNC vote-out rather than a PNM vote-in.

Quoted for truth.
Ahh where is the general elections thread that was around for the upcoming 2010 elections? I remember many of the things the PP doing now was talked about even before Manning gave power to them.
But im seeing ZR hard at work again....when the best bandwagonist award comes around, i'll be sure to nominate you so you can get that special Maha saba award.

And it's attitudes like constantly calling people names is what will keep the PNM in opposition.

You need to come with a new tactic than mudslinging.

Seems there are many thousands in Trini that know Rowley is not a leader. PNM Senator Faris Al Rawi? will PNM approve of this?

It is no doubt that the People’s National Movement (PNM) has remained the longest standing political party in Trinidad and Tobago.

Nevertheless, I believe under the current political leadership of Dr Keith Rowley its ability to be pertinent to the masses of various ethnicities and races in this country is almost impossible. Dr Rowley belongs to the old school of party politics.

In order for the PNM to gain popularity, favour and votes I humbly propose that the political leadership should be altered in favour of a new fresh personality and charisma as displayed by PNM Senator Faris Al Rawi or even a female such as Mrs Pennelope Beckles-Robinson. Let me venture to say if this change is made you will gain my vote along with many others.

But isn't this Trinidad politics in a nutshell? Parties are voted out rather than voted in when the populace gets fed up.

In order to judge a government's performance one look at indicators suc as crime, inflation, food prices, cost of living etc. In all of these categories the PNM has failed miserably.

I would like Habit7, rfari or any other PNM supporter to detail what success the PNM has had in this regard.

Crime: read case studies on the negative effects of the drug interdictions specifically the western hemisphere and come back to us
Inflation: learn about the effects of economic expansion in developing nations
Food prices: take a look at what has happened globally and see what is the main driver for rising food cost
Cost of living: do research on where tnt stands wrt cost of living in the region

I really feel u just playing dotish tho. Because if you did your research those will be the last factors that u will want to judge the pnm on.

Damn right. Say wha u want about manning. When rowley buss the file on all the dotishness he was doing he called an early election for the people to decide what they want to do know that the country was dissatisfied with governance. U feel kpb et al will ever do that? They holding on cus all they see is the power that comes with it
