yeah
ttec say they only responsible for up to the meter pole and it was an infrastructure fault behind that

somebody need to have a mains panel delay device like the surge protectors but for the whole mains panel
because it’s it lil surge when current comeback across the whole neighbourhood which does damage tings

Check Shakes for the compensation procedures. TTEC must repay you for damage caused by THEIR surge.

What ttec doesn't tell people is you have nothing to get if you didn't inspect within the lest 5 years... Thankfully I'm within the period.

You have to do everything online and it's like a mc exam you doing. I dropped my heater to water source and they would give me a report to submit to ttec.

Wait...isn't the surge protector's function to dump the excess load/surge to prevent this? So what can be done to prevent this kind of surge from damaging appliances, fixtures, etc?

On an over-voltage or under-voltage the circuit supposed to be interrupted to be prevent damage

Most surge protectors have a lifespan, it’s recommended every 3-5 years to be replaced. Seeing that we live in Trinidad. Every 2 years is good

I actually have more faith in the simple surge protectors which have the switch on delay
because the surge usually happens when ttec power comes back

I think the delay is more important than the surge protection as it is extremely rare for ttec to have a serious voltage spike during normal service. of course if lightning hits the power lines you can get a serious damaging spike.

I suppose the easy answer is individual socket protection for appliances - these are 100-200 ttd ea.

I know there are 220v versions for ac units but I don’t think I ever saw a high current version for water heaters.

Plenty people, you'd be surprised.

It's a requirement for some insurance companies who provide homeowners insurance against fire and accidental death. They want to be sure that if your house burn down from an electrical fire, or if someone gets electrocuted and injured or killed, it's not because the homeowner intentionally or accidentally caused it by doing madness with the house wiring.

Is a hassle yes, but it's for good reasons

doubt there is high amperage type for a tankless heater.
somebody could prob rig a regular type to trigger a high current contactor to get the delay aspect

Water heater require a 50A breaker(according to water source). I had this in my panel, it was damaged... Breaker tripped and firetrucked the heater at the same time. I have never seen individual regulators for these heaters...
