Anybody who lives in a steel-framed house in Trinidad or Tobago have any feedback on corrosion of the steel framed homes?

Are these cheaper than similar sized brick houses?

Not as far as I understand. Time to build is shorter, but it's not exactly cheaper.

Call this company for a quotation https://www.steel-framed.com

They are doing all the major steel frame developments e.g. Welcome Road in Trinidad

The owners of the company have constructed a few steel frame vacation rental homes in point radix, Mayaro. It is probably worthwhile asking them if you can visit and view the houses since they are probably taking a beating as a guest house.

https://www.pointradixtt.com/cottages
4 of the houses are steel frame

While the actual construction cost is similar; need to factor in that shorter construction time can be beneficial if:
1) using a bridging finance loan for construction
2) renting during construction since you can obtain quicker access to your property

One negative though is than selling of the house will be more challenging than a concrete house due to limited purchaser knowledge/ confidence.

Francis you're with them? Custom builds an option?

No. I am not associated with any of the companies.

My knowledge is from (1) discussions I had with one of their representatives a few years ago and (2) research.

You can do a custom build or use one of their standard house plans.

They have standard house (e.g. Welcome road houses - Samaan, Hummingbird or Kiskadee - https://www.facebook.com/steelframed/)

The houses in Point Radix (ref. Previous post) seems to be custom built.

Check out this contractor website for more projects: https://www.facebook.com/ISRO-Contracti ... 383336964/

Outside is clad with cement board. They use a brand called Plycem.
I was able to find this video on the website which shows the installation for outdoor siding sheets.

Note: video is in Spanish with English captions

I did a second floor with their system. Price is essentially the same, but tis a fair bit faster.
Strength wise it's pretty good - seems comparable to good ole brick and mortar.
If I had to go back, I'd do the entire house with their system.

How was QA/QC and management of installation - any thing to pay specific focus to during the process.
E.g. did the workmen try to take short-cuts like what occurs with non-professional builders in typical concrete jobs

The contractor ensured no corners were cut, and was quite meticulous in ensuring it was done well. Made the workers unmount and remount some of the areas a few times, and after completion made no issue in coming to sort fine issues i had.

I called them to discuss a project.
They not doing foundation or finishes, just the superstructure.

I'll have to finalise my plans and see if it's a viable option. I would have liked some long term reviews on it - but I'll have to dig online
