I am looking to do the same at some point, I guess it might make sense to import 2 sell one to recover some cost from second.

cacasplat3 ,

Who did you ship to Trinidad with?
How much it costing to clear?
Which dealer on cycletrader did you use?

Again thanks a million for all this info.

in the US its sold as an offroad bike, in the EU and Australia its sold in road legal trim.
It does come with a headlight and tail light, and a lot of the wiring is already on the bike to add on the extras like horn and indicators......there are a lot of street legal conversions in the states..
locally we can register almost anything as i've see MX bikes without a headlight or a tail-light on the street.

i shipped with ISL, but i suggest calling around and making your own decision based on prices/service/flexibility etc.
duties is the standard 20% and then 15% VAT on everything (essentially 38% on the cost)
i used Sky Powersports in Port Richey Florida. The guy i dealt with no longer works there though.

^^^ I could be wrong here, but yamaha has never released the wr450 for the street. I tried getting this bike a while back (street version) n was told its a track only bike. The only other bike they have is the 250 and 660 in that class .
Well u got a great bike , a super moto version will be a sports bike killer around twisting corners.

you were misled.
i called greene's just after it was released....they could bring either the US or Euro model....but wanted $80K...
i'm thinking about getting a supermoto conversion, but i'm not sure i'll like street riding.....maybe if we had a circuit track, i'd be inclined to do the conversion for a trackday sort of thing, but as it stands i'm undecided.

^^^ I did speak to greens and at that time he said the factory does not build the road version. What he did say is that they (greens) will convert it for road use by adding on the parts to make it road legal.
Still a beast of a bike and far ahead of the others in its class

but you guys still missing the big picture.... that engine will die if used for continuous street (highway etc)..use, not to mention the gearbox is a close ratio box...

the name of the bike "WR" means wide ratio.....
its made for enduro/offroad use, and may not survive too long with prolonged highway use, but it will survive road use with the proper maintenance......its no sportbike, so oil changes and valve clearance checks every 1000km, piston and rings every 7.5 or so......but it can handle cruising at 120kmph easily.
tons of these and other enduro bikes have been converted to supermoto and see road and track use...some never see the dirt....
in any event the 5 valve yamaha engine is one of the strongest they ever produced.

What are you doing to bring it out of sleep? I have to do the same with my CBR 600RR ..... it's been stored for almost 2 years ..... had done a full overhaul of it and then drove it for only a few months before parking it up. Now getting the itch to start riding again.

Definitely going to change oil, oil filter and flush/clean fuel system. Other than that what else should I be looking to do?

tires can dry rot, brake fluid and coolant should be flushed and replaced. battery should be checked as well.
check all safety switches/interlocks.....you never know which one has some corrosion and will not work when you need it.

Thanks meng. Good advice .... tyres were changed too but as you said could dry rot .... will check for cracking. Battery was taken out as I knew I would have to get a new one when the time came to start her again. Didn't think of brake fluid but definitely something to replace.

In most cases I always check all controls before riding so I'll be very diligent with this seeing as the bike was stored so long.

Quickbit's or Greene's. You can also order what you want and have a shop do the mounting.

First bike was a used chinese Bashan 250. Sure the speedometer stopped working and the indicators fell off after a while but I rode it as an everyday bike for a year with no issues. It used to top out at 120 - 140kmph depending on wind direction (according to my friend whose bike had a speedometer when he was riding next to me). Mileage was great, $50 per week to go from chag to town everyday, $60-$75 for the week if I rode on the weekend as well.

Once you have a set of sockets and screw drivers and not afraid to use them then there is nothing wrong with getting a chinese bike. All my parts were dog cheap on amazon (used same engine parts as some generic 250cc ATVs).

The only problem with owning a chinese bike is the constant minor oil leaks (it's not that much oil in it anyway so it must be minor) and ... well... the fact that you own a chinese bike. You will turn zero heads. It has all the appeal of a salad in a mampie's 3 piece combo.

But once you ok with that, it's still a bike, and if it's your first you still gonna crash it but it easy to fix.

Thanks checked greens today. They donot have the size. Customer service seems really poor and do not care to help.
