Thing is that from the time customs has released the vehicle, all taxes have been paid and it's just a small fee to register at LO. Maybe that's why people get a "bligh", still might be better to tow the vehicle or use a wrecker though.

One night is saw 3 Nissan marchs with Harvard lights and police right behind.

So the process according to you all is that I rent a wrecker tow my vehicle home, then tow to BoS then tow to LO

that makes no sense for an individual, since we can't get d-plates.

Maybe that's why they are allowing it.

You don't need a wrecker to tow a vehicle though. Some rope, an on tow sign and just drive behind the next vehicle. If they stop you say the rope now buss :|

Why do they sell one day insurance using the chassis number ?

Why does the port allow you to leave only if you have a valid 1 day insurance which shows the chassis number. ??

As stated by some one d plates ? can only be access by dealers.

If you are not allowed to drive on the road without d plates on a newly imported car .. why are you allowed to leave the port with it ??

Please clear this up for me

Maybe because over time the importation of cars has increased significantly, when I went for my car they were about 50 plus waiting to clear, where as in the perfect world there should be d-plates used, it is not that simple in the current situation, well as I can see it and makes sense in what they are doing

The 1 day insurance to the chassis acts the same as the d-plate, instead of the insurance tied to "d169" it will be tied to "cz4a------" even if you wreck your car you need insurance to leave the port as far as I understand

So then you should be allowed to drive without plates if you have a 1 day insurance tied to the chassis .. in theory

Like I was saying... if it is "allowed" occasionally.. it doesn't mean it is automatically authorized by the Law.

So "in theory" since it is not allowed in the "Road and Traffic Laws"... then a Police Officer can still charge you if they wish and a license officer can still impound your vehicle if they have a road block!

No, the purpose of the 1 day insurance is to get to BoS and LO. Not to be driven on the roads like a registered car

Like I say it's not perfect but reflects the change in the times, the current law reflects the situation for dealer since they are allowed to have d-plates, the current law does not reflect individuals who do not have access to d-plates

So if effect if the law is abided, it would cost a dealer 300 there abouts to license a car, but about 4000 for an individual since he had to wreck his car to BoS then wreck it again to LO.

This is not fair to the individual and maybe LO, TTPS and customs are being proactive in a solution that works well.

With regards to your statement for a vehicle without plates the customs documents must be in the vehicle.

Well I'm now informed but the reality of the situation I really wasn't in the mood for any embarrassment it cost me some extra cash but I had peace of mind, I'm not willing to take those chances.

I better call down some wreckers, cause if they stop, wrecker business will be good

Then there'll be a new thread, "why only dealers get plates and individuals have to wreck their vehicles"

Yesterday on my way home, I saw TTPS ticketing what looked like a S550 for this offence by Superpharm valsayn, I managed to get home and come back out and they were still there only problem they were blocking the filter from valsayn to the hi way.

years ago we use to do this

until a license officer flag us down on the road and tell us if the car can move under its own power, you don't need to tow it. to just drive it home and drive it to license office the next day or whenever to be licensed
