the fall was predicted. 18000 bitcoins stolen from bitstamp so obviously thieves would cash out their 3mill swift swift. who didnt figure that would drive the price down and alter their strategy to suit is at their own fault for making poor investment decisions.

The American government announced it is going to auction 50,000 Bitcoins soon. This decision was taken after Ross Ulbricht was recently convicted for running the online black market dubbed “Silk Road”.

This will not be the first auction being conducted by the US marshals service: in relation to Silk Road, it is the 3rd auction for Bitcoins seized. The prosecutors claimed that the cryptocurrency seized allowed customers buy and sell drugs and other illegal products beneath the radar of law enforcement. Ross Ulbricht, 30, was found guilty a few weeks ago by a federal jury in Manhattan – of drugs and other charges, including helping to enable about $200 million of anonymous online drug sales using cryptocurrency.

According to prosecutors, Ross Ulbricht had been operating Silk Road market under the nickname “Dread Pirate Roberts” until FBI shut down the service in October 2013. In the court, Ross conceded that he did create Silk Road, but then handed it over to the third party and was not responsible for illegal activity conducted there.

US marshals service announced that 50,000 Bitcoins (an online virtual currency) would be offered in 10 blocks of 2,000, and 10 blocks of 3,000. All bidders are required to register for the 6-hour auction three day before the auction, and winners will be notified next day after the auction.

It must be noted that previous auctions could bring the US government more money, as Bitcoins have lost roughly 80% of the value since its peak closing high of $1,147.25 in December 2013. Such volatility is explained by Bitcoin’s decentralized nature and small trading volume. Now the value of one digital coin is about $230. The US government auctioned about 30,000 Bitcoins seized from Silk Road in June 2014, and 50,000 Bitcoins more in December – at the time of the auctions, Bitcoin rate was respectively about $601 and $369 per coin.

As for the site operator, he consented to the latest auction in connection with a civil forfeiture proceeding. Ross Ulbricht faces up to life in prison – he will be sentenced in the criminal case on 15 May.

The popular BitTorrent client uTorrent is facing a backlash after trying to turn a buck through cryptocurrency mining.

On Thursday, users started reporting that uTorrent had silently installed cryptocurrency software from Epic Scale as part of version 3.4.2 build 28913. Once installed, Epic Scale uses some of the computer's spare processing power to generate cryptocurrency (such as Bitcoin or Litecoin).

for those who use bitcoin or invest. bitcoin is on the wise again. Its now valued at 510 usd approx compared to few days ago when it was 274usd. The rise is due to the Chinese ,arket and is expected to continue rising. Now is the time to buy!

it is rising and dropping a lot on a daily basis. bought up some btc yesterday for 280USD. keep watching and wait till it drops then buy. btc value will keep rising due to increased interest because of its volatility.
there is also the risk that it may drop as well. if you have some cash to spare, id say invest now. demand will only increase.

where the hell u getting btc for 280 right now? its at 400+ atm. steady rise since 200. told everyone i knew to get in anywhere below 250 months ago.

many are saying its a bubble. and though that is possible, it may not be probable. bitcoin has a habit of doing exactly the opposite of what everyone expects. so if u wake up and its 800 dont be too surprised. if u wake and its 250 again sell everything u own and buy bitcoin. trust me.

^^that was a couple days ago on a Russian exchange. even if btc value drops it will raise again. btc is here to stay and will only get more widespread imo
ltc may be rising slowly as well as the demand for btc rises.

lets say if btc hits the 800 mark, and if everyone dumps their btc on the auctions or try to sell it off, won't it have a negative effect and reduce the value?
