Agreed...ban should be longer and penalties stricter and better enforced

Good, would be less people for the police to arrest.

Then they go blame de gauvament for not replenishing de animal an dem for dem to make ah dollar to feed dey famalee.

I wonder how many "hunters" involved in any conservation programmes or practices.

To quote myself from the hunters thread

GRIM wrote:The biggest problem with the conservation of wildlife is when people commercialize the sale of wild meat.If there is no market for the sale then obviously there would be no need to hunt and kill excessive numbers of the animals.

Quote:
MY clip hunt for sports and for a living .... so wen we come out of the hunting season after blazing over 500 agoutis and dozens of larger game in 4 months

The idea that one should be allowed to "make a living" from hunting in a country that food is readily available is complete BS.
Hunting should be viewed as nothing more than a monitored recreational activity and the exploiting of such for financial gain/benefit should be seen as a crime and dealt with appropriately.

Most "hunters" are not against a ban folks. Problem is how the gov is implementing without consultation, proper planning, proper enforcement etc. For a ban to work it has to involve the hunters. For those not in the know hunting associations regularly have public programmes and activities such as tree planting etc. Do some research before jumping to conclusions. The sale of wild meat is also not supported by true "hunters". The ban will do nothing to stop this. Suggestions would have been submitted for the draft policy, makes no sense repeating same here.

Selling wildmeat isn't like selling cocaine.

People will notice, and the authorities will notice.

Set up more police posts in those rural (bush) communities and start taking them to jail.

i swear these things so easy to deal with

make 2 examples and the rest of the hunters will be scared.

Yeah but when the police hold the poachers they just take all their meat to sell themselves.

Is there any way the hunters can assist the authorities on finding and arresting the poachers?

Two weeks ago, Maharaj announced restrictions on trawling in local waters, in the face of declining seafood stocks and environmental damage caused by wide-range dragnets.

Maharaj disclosed in a media release that he has mandated a ban on trawling for non-artisanal trawlers; the implementation of a closed season for trawling activities; an amendment of regulations governing the Fisheries Act; and the appointment of a multi-sectorial committee to consider a relief package which can be offered to displaced fishers who will be affected by the change in legislation and the ban on trawling.

Trawling has earned a reputation for being vastly destructive and has been the subject of calls for it to be banned, locally and internationally.
The practice has been banned or restricted in several countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada and Malaysia.

they are taking some steps in the right direction.

Not only the trawling, the guys down Mayaro that pull the nets by hand, they kill thousands of fry for a dozen good sized fish and they just leave the small ones on the shore. They need to be regulated, make the holes in the net bigger because every time I go the fish are smaller and smaller.

thaz a serious suggestion....or pick up hunters from one area and swap them out with another set of hunters....let them walk through the bush trying to guess where each other put the trap guns....could televise and sell rights to espn etc....cud become international...last man standing....gets to stay unharmed...

if forestry division would make it a little easier for ppl to keep & breed animals to be released into the wild that would be a good start. but the amount ah horse manure yuh hadda go thru to even do that right now, I doubt anybody goin find it worth the effort.
