Police said a breathalyser test was administered on the driver and he failed. The driver was detained by police and is expected to be charged with the offence.

It is alleged that on August 31 at Tarouba Road, St Clements, Owen drove motor vehicle PBG1879 dangerously along the road, causing the death of Seepersad-Joseph.
The charge was laid under Section 71 A of the Motor Vehicle Road Traffic Act.
Another charge of dangerous driving was also read.
Wellington enquired from legal adviser to the Southern Division, Ramdath Phillip, about the choice of these two charges.

People in this country does watch coming and still cross the road with a dam " bonks meh nah" attitude. Pedestrians only have right of way at a zebra crossing or pedestrian crosswalk. So i think he should get away with minor charges as an example to other pedestrians in trinidad.
71A. (1) A person who drives a motor vehicle dangerously on a road commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of ten thousand dollars and to imprisonment for five years.
(2) A person convicted of an offence under this section shall, without prejudice to the power of the Court to order a longer period of disqualification, be disqualified for a period of twelve months from the date of the conviction from holding or obtaining a driving permit, and on a third conviction for a like offence he shall be permanently disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving permit.
