I did it, and if you are not going to dedicate your life to specializing in an area of IT - Dont do it.

Choose the route you like most if you do choose it, DB/Web/Network/Hardware, and focus on it.
If you like Web, do ALL the courses related to that, and the credit you need to make up, choose even more courses related

I did comp sci & physics undergrad, then elec eng postgrad, and each had aspects that were difficult and aspects that were easy. It wasn't a straight case in any discipline.

You can do very well in Comp Sci if you apply yourself and do what the lecturers ask you to do (tutorials on time, understand the labs, start your assignments as soon as you get them). Comp Sci stood out in that you were constantly being evaluated and challenged, whereas with Physics and Postgrad elec, you could get an A from doing the exam well enough. Content wise, physics was the most interesting, for me at least. The best part about Comp Sci is that it molds your thinking into a more logical manner which can be applied in any situation, and I have no regrets about doing the course.

If you're choosing to do a programme for a career, the idea is to be competitive in the job space, and supplement your degree (whatever it is) with further useful qualifications that someone at your level will not normally have.

The programming and maths in the Bsc Information Technology isnt as heavy as computer science, you do about 2 maths courses with A Level statistics and the programming courses are the same courses that the computer science students do but with less programming and more theory.
ps you really need to love programming if you intend to do computer science

Until you understand the true purpose of a university, you will have a hard time.
What I mean by that?
You need to be obsessed with it.
You need to find it fun.
You need to apply it in real life, practice what you learn at home.
The point of a school is to educate you, so while the faculty mostly forgets that, you need to pickup the slack.
It's always harder to repeat information verbatim, but if you understand it enough, it'll be a lot easier.
