3cm (it's a little hard to make it out on the tag). salesman said it was thick and therefore more expensive (?).

the prices in the pictures above are about the same:

9 feet x 26 inches = 9 feet x (13/6) feet = 39/2 square feet

the $2800 slab is 2800/ (39/2) = $143.59 per square foot

the $3200 slab is 3200/(39/2)=$164.10 per square foot

^NR8 -- how long ago did you do your kitchen?

anyone knows what is the largest slab you can get locally? looking for a 6 ft x 2 1/2 ft slab

we had a counter installed late last year,
they used angle grinder with diamond blade to do all the smaller cuts, sink hole etc

to cut long strips they have a tile saw which runs on a rail.
they did not use any water.

the edges are polished with a diamond pad.
a lot of freehand work, ie some hand skill required.

@ Cornbird, about 2 years ago

pugboy, you mean a tile cutter? The type with the lever that has to be pulled down to scour the surface and then apply pressure to crack like a glass cutter?

If anyone is interested, I can design and build complete kitchens including appliances, custom cupboards local and imported as well as countertops . I have quite a bit of experience with granite. Have worked with it for the last three years.

You can pm or call me directly on 499-5425.

I do in home visits and there is no charge for measurements and quotations. Samples are brought to you for choosing as well.

And be assured that if for some reason I don't have what you want, I can direct you to where you need to go.

I look forward to helping you build your dream kitchens and baths too!!!

i took a look around

marble and granite solutions in marabella has 8' x 31" x 3/4" at $2495 ($125/sq ft). not a large selection. their black granite at the same dimensions is closer to $3000. they also have granite tile at about $50/sq ft (size of tile is 12" x 24"). also had a nice red jhansi tile at $100/sq ft

hosein's in marabella carries three colours of granite tile at about the same price and size as above. they don't carry slabs

abc distributors also length 8' width 3/4" from the range $2000-$3000. salesperson said they're expecting a new shipment that would be 5/4" thick (??)

precast concrete in santa cruz has a great selection (really pretty granite). prices are $300 to $500+ per sq ft

marble and granite solutions is on union road on the left side if you're driving toward marabella; somewhere between southern wholesale and harmony hall

http://www.mgstonesolutions.com/contact.html

still trying to understand why some people sell at $300 + per sq ft

(like precast concrete and these folks http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=108450192602176&set=a.108448945935634.15494.100003115886244&type=1&theater )

and others basically sell at $125-$150 per sq ft.

i also took a look at home store in barataria. they're expecting new stock; think they have around five or six colours in the $125-$150 range

firstly you can bounce them together to avoid any spacing..
also you can get some with the bullnose so the edges will look complete..

alot of the cheaper granite tops available locally are not 100% granite..its a man-made material

hm...we recently did our kitchen with porcelain tiles...came out pretty good.
We were looking at Granite but couldn't find something we liked. About 3weeks after we finished my dad saw an ad in the Express with something about spray on Granite but we never saw it again & didn't get the contact info. Anybody know about it?

Prices looking good...I think Corn Bird lol Shop around...we got a good deal from this place in Chaguanas

(...Rovin...) wrote:abc distributors in san juan have , 1 of d cheapest sellers i have seen so far

however d price of some locally is rather cheap compared to what u see ppl paying for it on shows on HGTV , i suspect some of it is not natural slabs but pieces caste together to form sheets aka "man-made granite\engineered stone" ...

this.. also there is a place opposite Kaydonna that have some good home furnishing

Bumping this thread!
Im in the process right now of doing a counter top. Granite was what I initially wanted but yesterday I saw some quartz counter tops at good prices (8'x26") from 1600 go up. Granite prices in some places (tile warehouse) real low to, sheets (9") going from 1000 up.
From what I researching is either not real granite but engineered or of a low quality (also not so thick).
Anybody has experience with quartz, i personally like the colours and it seems easier to maintain.
Next main thing, anybody can recommend a good installer that wont kill me for price?

Bless
