TWO Maraval men have been arrested by police after they were caught scrapping two vehicles at a garage on Wednesday.
The vehicles – a
Nissan Frontier and a mini bus – were taken from the owners at gunpoint at Tamana and Talparo recently, police said.
Police officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force, headed by Sgt Roger Alexander and Cpl Cornelius Samuel, received information and went to Store Drive Extension, Petit Valley, where they found the vehicles.
Officers said the suspects, ages 42 and 51, of Paramin Village and Maraval, were caught in the act scrapping the vehicles which officers were able to identify by the engine and chassis numbers.
Detectives from the Port of Spain-based Stolen Vehicles' Squad (SVS) were contacted and the suspects and the vehicles were taken to the Morvant Police Station where they men were interviewed, before being handed over to SVS officers.
Police have since obtained an arrest warrant for the owner of the garage who officers describe as a well-known car thief.
Investigations are continuing into the incident. –Akile Simon
