And now in light of the callous person who caused this, having left the scene,
we now have to depend on the same cameras to pull back info. and go after them.

WHAT AN IMPACT!!  and what's really sad was that she was wearing her seat belt too..

It's so unfortunate, but it looks like the flip is what really done her in as the front end is relatively intact..

Condolences to the family..

Sick to my stomach to read how this played out for an innocent unsuspecting life to be taken. If anyone can provide more details about the Almera, kindly do so.

Can we assume that the purple Almera would have left front damage from clipping the Celica right rear? If so, let us please look out for a purple Almera attempting to be discretely repaired.

Have a couple friends with bodywork garages I will forward the info on to.

My condolences and prayers go out the the Robinson's.
Cant say I've seen too many Purple Almera's, shouldn't be difficult to find the culprit.
This is sad.

R.I.P terrible to lose someone due to the utter stupidity of another careless driver. We are all hoping the driver of the Almera is caught but even if they are, there is little chance the family will ever see the appropriate justice delivered.......sad.

Seems like Toyota should have another lawsuit on their hands, as I find it quite unbelievable for the entire backrest to fail the way it did as evident in the pics, which in turn led to her unfortunate death. It looks like a mechanical failure within the locking mechanism which I have never seen happen before in any accident.

My prays go out to Mrs. Robinson's family and may she rest in peace.

actually you'd be surprised how common the seatback failure is, across the board under certain conditions...
Granted the standards are better now than a decade ago, but most seats are still engineered with the force of a body moving forward in mind, more than rearward force.
The tragic thing is this is one of those accidents that the driver simply cannot prevent or avoid......
We did some simulations a while back and demonstrated how easy it is to nudge another vehicle out of your way (PIT Maneuver) at remarkably slow speeds, as what seems to have happened here.....
In our demonstration, I was in the vehicle that was being nudged....and I barely even felt it....all I knew was I suddenly lost all control and the car was moving through 180 degrees........and this was at maybe 20kph
Imagine this at say 40-50 when you don't even expect it

Sad thing is the Almera is probably white by now.......

not to spam this thread but was this a FU vehicle?
the car may have been in an accident prior and the seat back was already compromised seatbelts and seats should be replaced after an accident with NEW units to avoid situations like this

good point cinco
seatbelts indeed need to be replaced after severe collisions
I had a very old corolla once with welded seatback brackets from a previous collision...........I discovered it while sitting in traffic one day and it started reclining by itself! The whole thing cracked where it was welded and filed down..............but in most cars, there are conditions under whick seat backs can potentially fail, even without prior collision damage
I think this was a very sad case of very bad luck and conditions conspiring against the driver :-(
