read up alot on the t3i and there are MINOR differences which doesnt justify the cost difference for me, the biggest change it got was an upgraded vari-angle lcd , both will take the same picture.

see here : http://www.radiantlite.com/2011/02/cano ... -550d.html

as i said , im stuck between the t2i or the d3100 ....

Got the t1i ad it's a great cam, but I will say for certain angles the LCD is so glossy you can't see a damn thing in liveview on a bright day... so to that reason alone I would get the t3i.

But the t2i is a brilliant cam and worth its weight.

Blue, canon has a greater selection of professional lens. Nikon has a better lineup in their DX system than canon has in their EF-s system. They are the same quality and you get what you pay for in each.

Since I shoot a nikon DX digital camera, I invested in nikon DX lenses..
18-55 (came with cam)
35mm f/1.8
55-200mm

All of these are beautiful peces of sharp glass

Compared to canon crop sensor digital system (which are also great)
18-55mm
50mm f/1.8
55-250mm

Simmilr eh? not quite. The 35mm nikon prime lets you get closer for people shots in poor light than the canon 50mm,which is for the same purpouse. Wider lenses also mean you could shoot at slightly lower shutter speed handheld. On the longer end of the scale, the canon has an advantage with 50mm more on the telephoto (more zoom). From reviews, it is not as good optically as the nikon 55-200.

As for the digital body, you should buy the most current body, as...like computers, they go out of production really quickly. They are pieces of junk. Consider the T3i if you have the money and want to go canon.

I am never going to upgrade to full frame digital, so these DX lens will serve me well when I get my D7000 in a few months.

That said, as an aside,.... I shoot a semi professional canon 35mmSLR, an EOS3, and I will be buying the 50mm f/1.8 for it soon, as it gives the same field of view as the 35mm on my crop sensor nikon on film. I use the canon 28-135mm on it now. I think I will get a few other canon lenses in the L series for this.

which Nikon do you use cross drilled?

I really cant justify buying the T3i, simply because it is barely different from the T2i. It would make no real difference to me with the minor changes , from all the reviews i saw online everyone says it "basicallys shoots the same pics , with a very very small improvement"

There is also a big price difference between the D3100 vs the T2i , which is making me like the D3100

Blue, I shoot a Nikon D40. Some people say it is ole shite (quite frankly, it is,compared to the D3100) However, because it has an electronic shutter, my flash synch is 1/500 (better) instead of 1/200 with more recent cameras, which gives me better daylight shots. I like nikon because I only want/ need the three lens I have (which cover 18-200mm, plus low light applications), which were made for the smaller sensor D40. Many older series professional Nikon lenses will not autofocus or meter on this body, because nikon removed the ability to support legacy lenses from their cheaper cameras (The older cameras had a mechanical linkage to focus those lens, the new ones focus electronically with a motor). If you want to use these older lens on a Nikon, you need to buy the more expensive crop sensor bodies, like theD7000, D300s/x or go full frame D700 (The D90 manual says they are compatible, but nikon lied.). Only the newer professional lenses will work on the D40/D3100/ D5000 etc.

ALL canon EF lenses and EF-s lenses will work on ALL of their crop sensor bodies, so you can pretty much use ANY modern canon lens with the T2i option.

Since price is your concern, I am guessing you will never be shooting a professional lens on your camera (neither have I) and be using Nikon. Just buy a set of DX pluss an external flash, and you are set. Here is my gear list for you to see the stuff you might really need furthur down the road after you get comfy with your kit lens:

1) Camera body
2) Kit lens
3) 35mm f/1.8 $200USD
4) 55-200mm $200USD
5) Flash. I use the SB400
6) Tripod (Cost me 200TT by courts)
7) Spare battery
8) 52mm circular polarizing filter (buy the best that you can afford)
9) Camera Strap (Nikon don't pay me to adveritise and it is too short for me)
10) Camera bag (dont store your gear in the bag, it will get fungus. Just use it for transport/ hiking)
11) Grey card
12) 42" reflector.
13) Bulb blower
14) Lens pen.
15) Memory cards

Hope this helps.

Those guys factor in the price for customs duties, shipping etc (Even if they brought it in in a suitcase) guess that is what the market is like here. It might actually cost less to preorder for in store pickup @ B&H or adorama, then fly up and collect it.

I am looking at getting the T1i or T2i from amazon.

Here is a nice article on getting gear for a T2i can be applied to the 1 & 3 also.

I don't agree with that gear list, and it is definitely not a budget list.... but that is just me and the way I shoot, I bought what I have and I am happy. Other people have multiple flashes, longer zooms, ultra wide angles etc. I just post what I have to let you know what works for me, and what you might want to buy if you go Nikon. You will be equally happy if you decide on the canon, as I own both systems and find them both great. I hear a lot about the great canon community in Trinidad, and how lenses are accessable, but I have gotten Nikon lenses borrowed and bought my 55-200 used locally. It all about what works for you and taking baby steps in gear acqusition. I bought everything I have over three years of saving a little then buying when I could afford.

Another good site for used items is keh.com. Other than Amazon, B&H and adorama, I have not bought from anywhere else.

Ok lemme clear things up. If you going canon the advantages is that a lot of people use canon and there is a higher availability of used gear in trinidad (although carnival tuesday i saw more nikons than canons). I shot with a nikon d90...and it is a great camera. It will trump canon's ti1 and t2i and its comparable to the canon 50d(which is a good cam)
the D90 is out of production now since nikon released the D7000(which is a beast) so u can pick one up for not much more than the price of a D3100.( but i don't know your budget)

Now i love the feel of nikons bodies, it feels way better built than the canons offerings (eg t1i and t2i) which i have used and nikon produces more accurate colour renditions than canon.
Now with all that said, the best camera with shitty lens will not be as good as a shitty camera with good lens.
Its up to you. hold both cameras in your hand, feel them, ask questions about them. Then make your decision.
Here are some links to good un-biased information

EDIT: If you plan on using your DSLR for video, buy a canon and forget Nikon (unless its a d7000)

^^ in both brands there are some models which are really marketing gimmick models and some which are the real deal

eg the D90 is a real good camera with all the important parameters easily adjusted, whilst the D3000 is truly a gimmick camera with all kinds of useless options to get lost on the myriad of buttons

Its light, composition, darkroom and motive. Anyhow, here's my photostream, i shoot a d5000.

The D5000 has treated me very well so far, I can't complain. Although I will be getting a D7000 in the next couple months as I probably wanna get rid of the D5000 while I could still get some cash from it.

But the lenses is where you real money problems start. So far I have aquired these Nikkor lenses
35mm 1.8 that cross mentioned - perfection 8-)
28-300mm VRII that shamefully I have only taken test shots from my window so far.
18-200mm VRII that thankfully I never used but will sell as a result of the above,
and well the good ole 18-55 kit lens which is simply amazing by itself 8-)

Despite what the natives say, comparing like with like, Canon, Nikon they both on par, but seeing that most Trini's shoot with Canon you will have more support locally....but why be like everyone else 8-)

It really boils down to your skill after that.

^^^......by that I meant that I can sell it for more than if I used it. It is a fantastic lens.....much more practical than the 28-300mm.
