Every ministry has it's allocation. Not too sure which one, but I am sure it did not come out of the health ministry's budget, or the budget of the ministry for social development.

If it was ministry of sports/ culture/ creative arts, cry down the PNM for not supporting athletes, being racial with the allotment to indian athletes or whatever else you can actually gripe about that ministry etc, not for health, or old people or for not fixing road. 2mil cannot buy twenty Tiida, and the amount of steel and structural work that went into making the flag could easily encompass the same metal in dem shite car. There are many things that are wrong in the country, but this ministry is actually working and getting jobs done. I can find no fault with them on this project. The other ministries that are not performing have thir own budget:

1) National Security
2) Health

Those two ministries are a waste of time and cause us the most suffering. They have huge budgets, and 2 mil for them would be a drop in the bucket of wastage they cause.

crossdrilled, don't get me wrong, I hear you and I have no problem with the flag in it's self, I feel proud to see it flying high I will always be Trini to the Bone.

But regardless of the fact that each Ministry has it's budget, at the end of the day the monies come from one pool, the Treasury, and financial prudence must be exercised in all aspects of public spending, certainly something has to be wrong with a 2 mil price tag.

There was a news report (TV 6 or CNC, can't remember which) on a similar issue with a Barbados company doing a similar Barbados flag abeit it was a bit smaller, the cost when compared came no were close or even comparatively speaking to that which it cost this nation and be extension you and I.

2 d Max Auto, Ok, I can agree with that point of view. If you are saying that there is a proof to show that there was corruption in erection of the flag, that the total cost of design and fabrication, testing, transportation of materials, civil works, labour etc, was totaly out of line with actual cost, and other bidders were prevented from submitting reasonable alternatives (note, even if the profit high, in a competitive environment like trinidad, some contractors might not have even pissed on the bid) I would be the first in joining you in pissing on the pole.

^^ lol, agreed in so much that many contractors may not even give the bid a second look, as for the corruption aspect, I believe the reports given by the Minister indicates that due process was followed.

I'm aware of all that needs to go into a project like this and yes Trinidad tends to be a high profit business enviroment, however the issue for me is the practicality and price tag given other pressing social, economic and other issues affecting us, especially in the current economic situation where everyone is being asked to tighten their belts.

If you don't see anything wrong/exorbitant with the price tag vs other national needs, then I'm sorry I just can't share your point of view.

I appreciate the healthy discussion though :)

question is why do it in the first place when there was another one done at no cost to the public? warners own is seen by users of the eastern main road, PBR and the highway. Am i going to get twice the patriotism now? that flag is just a marketing ploy with the gov using it to "brand" T&T. If it was such a good idea, how come so many people could care less?

Beats me what the official thinking was, but I believe that it might have been an inspirational banner for people taking part in sport events in the stadium. BTW, anyone went to the stadium lately can tell us if you can see it from inside?

What's the deal with the big screen TV that supposed to be mounted on the side of a new government building? Did they install it yet?

if you want to talk about ministries and allocation

talk about the lack of any sporting or recreational facility in my area (non pnm area)
despite numeruous efforts from multiple groups and ogranizations in the area, we cannot get any funding or assistance, the existing grounds not getting any upgrades or even maintanance, we dont even have a primary school in the area cause the last one was so old an delapidated it had to be demoed and now the childern in the area have ot be shuttled to another area school where they borrowing space, no community centre the last one was also demoed cause of age etc, we get water once a week if lucky, you have to wake up 4am which ever morning water come ot get all your washing done.

^^^Those were good uses for the flag money, and the two mill would have definitely helped your area in those respects.. The others are WASA, and ministry of education and possibly ministry of works, which not related to the flag.
