HEALTH MINISTER WORRIED CITIZENS WOULD PARTY, AFTER SOE ENDS :

With the State of Emergency (SoE) and curfew nearing an end, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says he is “deathly afraid” there will be a further rise in COVID-19 cases, which are already at an alarming rate.

Responding to a concern that as the SoE comes to an end at the end of the month, several people might throw caution to the wind, Deyalsingh yesterday said, “I am deathly afraid of that because then the partying is going to start back and all of these things are going to start back and cases would most likely skyrocket and our health care system, the parallel health care system may be overwhelmed and we are dealing with the known Delta variant. ... what happens if tomorrow you hear about another variant which is more deadly what are we going to do?”

He is again urging citizens to get vaccinated.
