1) Report was preliminary so I guess they need it to be finalised and confirmed, as Redman stated, dot the I's and cross their T's

2) Nah, we go low Dem, so long as they don't do it again.

That is JUHN Scarfy M.O. Talk to Olivierre, talk to Young Bronto, talk to Smith, talk to Arse-Wari Then blame "youth", "inexperience" and fly out. Useless, hypocritical waste of time PM.

I like to be informed, so I appreciate what they do!
It was good news to me when Paul Richards was appointed as a senator.

I would appreciate if they would keep me informed. But accuracy of some the these 'stories' they put out are terribly awful.

All they care about is being the first to push something out no matter if it is a pile of tata. It is amazing what the country calls/accepts as 'Journalism.'

And thank Goodness for Facebook or Yahoo news or else the whole papers mite be one page.

Yunno, when the UDeCOTT fiasco broke Dr. Rowley made a big stink about then Prime Minister Patrick Manning's alleged relationship with its chairman Calder Hart. No reasonable person will deny that he is Prime Minister today (largely) because of it.

It would be extremely funny if this A&V fella turns out to be his "Calder Hart".

Petrotrin must address costs to survive*

Wilfred Espinet

NEW Petrotrin chairman Wilfred Espinet says the company needs to be reinvented and its cost structure needs to be addressed.
But in an exclusive interview with Express Business at his courier company in East Port of Spain, the business owner stopped short of advocating the privatisation of the company, arguing what is needed is the appropriate governance structure, greater accountability and no meddling by governments in its operations.
“My real concern is that Petrotrin does not end up to be a Caroni Ltd,” said Espinet, referring to the now operationally defunct state-owned sugar producer and refiner that was closed down in 2003 after losing billions of dollars.
“If the intention is for Petrotrin to survive—as distinct from leaving it as is and letting it collapse—then it must do so in the context of how enterprises survive: they must have an income that is greater than its expenses and the surplus must be invested to maintain the business,” said Espinet, adding “The cost structure of Petrotrin has to be dealt with in the short term. And each line item has to be dealt with.” But he would not be drawn on if addressing the Petrotrin’s cost structure meant reducing compensation or downsizing the company’s staff complement.

It was hand picked by the board and was answerable to them....

They began uncovering all of this.

Whether a total lack of oversite-ie AV and others,
-Unqualified people padded in non operational positions-with ironclad contracts-similar to the President signing off on the HR Managers 'retirement lumpsum'
-Division managers preventing Petrotrin from doing X...allowing a private co to do it and cost Petrotrin more.

So at the end of the day it is CITIZENS that selling out 1.3M of us for their private gain.
And it forcing the GORTT/Petrotrin into a corner with limited options.

Once again, your blind, cultish loyalty to Scarfy prevents you from naming him as ultimately responsible for this this robbery of our money. Never mind that this bald arrogant imps campaigned on a platform of corruption busting, but has thus far shown to be at least ineffective or actually approving of corruption.

That Baksh dresses like a real Raj, shirt unbuttoned more than it should, oversized Gold pendant. The real kicker would be if the pendant is a ganga leaf.

Deokiesingh quits Lake Asphalt board

Gail Alexander
Published:
Thursday, September 21, 2017

Petrotrin employee Vidya Deokiesingh resigned from the Lake Asphalt Board earlier this week, Energy Minister Franklin Khan confirmed yesterday.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley last Friday said Deokiesingh had signalled his intention to resign from the LATT board and he expected the resignation shortly. Khan confirmed its been received.

This followed Petrotrin’s August internal audit report over January to June 2017 which alleged volume discrepancies occurred, causing under-supply by, and overpayment to a private operator.

A Petrotrin employee was allegedly involved.

Petrotrin presented a final report on the issue to Khan last Thursday. This is expected to be perused by Cabinet today.

Deokiesingh didn’t immediately reply to calls yesterday.

Sources yesterday claimed Deokiesingh had come gone in to Petrotrin recently after the issue broke, submitted leave application and “disappeared.”

Petrotrin president Fitzroy Harewood was said to be in a meeting and other officials could not verify if Deokiesingh was on duty in the capacity he had held—or if the situation had changed in any way.

An official Petrotrin response last night stated the company could not comment on queries over whether he had been suspended or not, since investigations were ongoing.

Yesterday, Opposition MP Dr Suruj Rambachan called on Government to make the Petrotrin report the “number one item” for discussion at today’s Cabinet meeting and to issue a subsequent statement on speedy resolution.

He added: “It should be discussed as a priority item with a view to action of some sort. From what’s known so far, the report contains very scary allegations.

“If Government is serious about being viewed as an anti-corruption administration, they should leave no stone unturned in pursuing proper resolution. It should be dealt with, with the same speed the ferry service report was.”

Petrotrin expands fake oil probe

Gail Alexander
Published:
Sunday, September 24, 2017
To avoid another fake oil fiasco

Although Petrotrin recently presented the Energy Ministry with a report on the alleged “fake oil” issue, the company is conducting further investigations into other aspects of the matter.

This was confirmed by Ministry officials following comments by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley on Thurdsday. In confirming that he had spoken to Petrotrin employee idya Deokiesingh after news of the matter broke, Dr Rowley said the company’s investigations are on-going.

A Petrotrin employee is alleged to have been involved in the volume discrepancy matter concerning alleged under-supply and over-payment from a private operator. The allegations were made in an August 17 Petrotrin internal audit report made public by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

Following those revelations, Energy Minister Franklin Khan said Petrotrin’s board met for two days on the matter last week and a report was subsequently given to him on September 14. On the status of that report, the ministry confirmed that investigations are continuing on “some more . . . additional issues.” However, ministry offcials declined to give details of the issues and had no word on when the entire probe will be completed.

In a statement last Friday, Petrotrin said: “The company has no comments at this time as investigations are ongoing.”

Since the matter was made public, Deokiesingh, a defeated PNM 2015 election candidate, has been keeping a low profile and is reported to be on leave from his job. He didn’t answer calls yesterday.

Questions were sent to Petrotrin on whether Deokiesingh is on leave, for how long and if the leave was approved . On that Petrotrin also had no comment. Officials would only say that nvestigations are ongoing.

However, sources said top company officials had mandated a probe of how the internal audit report was leaked and the audit team might be targeted.
