Too many remakes these days ... which add nothing of substance to the original ... let us see if they can remake this and have the impact of the first death wish was a classic so much so it had a number of sequels.

Don't want to spoil anything, is this supposed to be watched before watching the movie?

yes you can watch it before the film. Warner Bros uploaded them except the last one which crunchyroll have right to for some reason.
The first one 2036 has a person from main movie in it but the dialogue is brief.
The second one is 2048, 1 year before the new blade runner 2049 movie, so that one may have spoilers related to the upcoming movie.
The last one, 2022 is long (15mins) and goes into details of what happened after the original blade runner movie and runs into spoiler territory. The last one is the only one that in anime, and was directed by Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe.
