you purchased the wrong version of the screen.
blackberries have different screen versions for the same phone.

There is a way to get the phone to use any version of the lcd but you will loose all info on the phone.

should still be able to backup via DTM

Ok fair enough... Triad... Take a listen to engadget's last mobile podcast... The editors there had the inside track/word from employees, its actually worse than you think. The employees themselves admitted bb10 was buggy as hell, and the review units they were given during a company sponsored event left them under whelmed to say the least.

The U.S. Military is working on secure android platforms in preparation for rims demise... BES patents may be its only hope of a form of survival. Obviously not in its current form, but at least the name won't die easily.

oh i've heard it alright....
couple of my contacts are working at RIM, one cousin included in that mix, actually told me last week don't hold my breath for BB10 (which i'm not anyway)
i just need a solid device for my needs.... the apps are no biggy (if you look back over the paswt 3 pages you'd see that)
push email in a snap, and preferably a keyboard would work for me

I frequently troll average non-power users when they tell me about having to do a battery pull... "huh what's a battery pull...brr :S" then they stand there and explain... And I'm like, " wow ppl still do that? Your phone must be counterfeit" I usually continue til I can't hold the laughter any longer. Sigh... I'll miss those days :(

IF you are talking about it sticking about 75% or so when its powering on. Then i'm almost certain an IC is damaged on the board, very common problem on the 8520 and a few other models...

There is some special software from RIM that can configure the phone to use any version of the LCD.

RIM seems to be losing the battle..when companies start pulling apps

New York Times drops BlackBerry app

(Reuters) - BlackBerry users can no longer use the official New York Times app to read news stories over their devices, in a fresh blow to Research In Motion, the maker of the smartphone once considered an essential tool for business professionals.

New York Times Co, which publishes the prestigious newspaper, said it stopped supporting its applications for BlackBerry and the Palm Pre as of Monday, meaning the apps will no longer download news stories.

"It's a matter of usage of our apps, and we dedicate our resources where we think there's the highest level of usage," said New York Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy. "We've seen a drop-off."

Seen it all before with Apple, Amiga, Atari, Commodore, OS/2 Warp, Nokia to a point (Symbian) ...heck DOS. It no longer becomes profitable to devote developer time to hardware in decline.
