In Parliament today, it was proven, via the use of hansard, that the bill that left the house, (the bill supported by the opposition), was NOT the same bill hastily proclaimed. Somewhere between there and the hasty proclamation of the bill, important amendments seem to have been made.

Someone changed the legislation, to read that the charges "shall" be thrown out if takes more than 10 years from the date of the OFFENSE, and not from the date that the CHARGES ARE LAID, as it read, when it left the house. Which now makes "Ish and Steve" legible to be covered by the new amendment and DOESN'T help Calder Hart, Mrs Penia , etc, because they have not yet been charged, have they??

Still don't understand why, on independence night (midnight) was this rushed through? even though assurances were given by the Minister of Justice, that NONE of these amendments would be proclaimed, unless the proper framework to support these bills were enacted.

And i heard that a "high ranking" UNC official was seen drinking champagne with one of the accused that could benefit from this legislation on Saturday night, in Tobago......take that.

The PNM supported it when the gov't promised to make the necessary amendments. That was not done and it was proclaimed instead. Strange affairs.
