As much as I dislike Man U..I hate Inter even more..Man U have some injury worries for their defense.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 904057.stm
Manchester United are likely to field an unfamiliar central defensive partnership for Tuesday's Champions League tie against Inter Milan.

Nemanja Vidic is suspended, while Jonny Evans limped out of Saturday's 2-1 win over Blackburn with an ankle injury.

Inter coach Jose Mourinho has similar, if less extreme, problems to negotiate.

Argentine defender Walter Samuel is unlikely to make his starting line-up after missing the weekend's 2-1 victory over Bologna with a calf injury.

Six defenders travelled with the United squad to Italy for the opening leg of the first knockout round at the San Siro, with two of them carrying injuries.

The holders are without Gary Neville and Wes Brown through injury, while John O'Shea has a sore heel.

Fabio Da Silva is set to get the nod at the back, according to manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

"Obviously we have some injuries and we won't know until Tuesday (whether the players will be fit). O'Shea did a light session on his own and Johnny Evans didn't train. Everyone else who travelled trained," he said.

"With Gary Neville and Wes Brown injured and Nemanja Vidic suspended for the game it is a worrying moment for us.

"I hope one will be OK, probably O'Shea. But that leaves us with a problem at right-back, probably young Da Silva (will play).

"I wish we were in a better position tomorrow defensively in terms of availability but that happens."

With Italy international Marco Matterazzi also struggling to recover in time for the Italian champions, the heart of their backline will be selected from Ivan Cordoba, Cristian Chivu and Nicolas Burdisso.

Mourinho's in-form side sit nine points clear at the top of Serie A after securing their latest victory through goals from Esteban Cambiasso and Mario Balotelli.

Former United midfielder David Beckham played against Mourinho's side for city rivals AC Milan two weeks ago and the 33-year-old has pinpointed Inter's strikeforce as their main threat.

"They have got good players all the way through their squad but I think the forwards are strong, they are quick and they can hold the ball well and they are not frightened so if you control them United have got a chance," Beckham said.

"United have also got some players that can win games and also the defence is exceptional at the minute so that's why it is going to be so tough."

The England international backed United to beat the Italian side and revealed he may even speak to Sir Alex Ferguson prior to the match.

As a United fan I'm on their side and also as a Milan player I'm on their side," added Beckham.

"I'll be coming to the game, I'm sure I'll speak to some of the players and the manager so I'm looking forward to it.

"United are favourites in my eyes but I am biased. The strength of their squad and the way they have been playing recently, they are on a run where they look unbeatable and I hope that continues."

Mourinho boasts a formidable record when coming up against Ferguson having only lost once in 10 meetings with United when he was in charge of Chelsea.

"It's not going to be easy. Mourinho is a great manager, he knows how to play against great teams and great players and he's done that over the years - but Sir Alex Ferguson is the best manager in football and he's got some of the best players and the best squad in Europe," Beckham said.

"It will be very tactical at the start because that is how Inter play and how Italian teams play but United could open them up and then we will have to wait and see."

Man Utd squad: Van der Sar, Foster, Kuszczak, Ferdinand, Evra, O'Shea, Evans, Fabio, Eckersley, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Nani, Scholes, Possebon, Gibson, Fletcher, Ronaldo, Rooney, Berbatov, Tevez, Welbeck

BIG MATCH STATS

Internazionale and Manchester United have met twice before in European competition.

10 years ago, the clubs met at the quarter-final stage of the CL with United progressing on a 3-1 aggregate. Current squad members, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes (United) and Javier Zanetti (Inter) all played in both matches.

Inter have hosted English clubs on 13 occasions, winning six, drawing four and losing three. Inter are yet to beat an English club in Italy in four fixtures in the CL.

The Red Devils have won on just three of their 15 visits to Italy, drawing twice and losing 10.

Mikael Silvestre, Laurent Blanc and Juan Sebastian Veron all played in the CL for both Inter-Milan and Manchester United. Paul Ince also played for both clubs but not in the CL. He was transferred from Manchester United to Internazionale in 1995.

CLUB FORM

INTER MILAN

Playing in the CL knockout phase for the seventh time. Their best performance was a semi-final appearance in 2002-03. Inter won the Champions Cup in 1964 and 1965 and have also triumphed three times in Uefa Cup finals.

Lost their last two CL matches and are without a win in three.

Conceded 299 goals in all European competitions.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Reached the knockout stages of the CL for the 12th time, one behind the record of Real Madrid.

The current holders of the CL and also won the competition in 1999. Their other European titles came in the Champions Cup in 1968 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1991.

Been eliminated at the last 16 stage twice, by FC Porto in 2004 and AC Milan a year later. Porto's head coach in 2004 was Jose Mourinho.

Knocked out of Europe by Italian opposition on six occasions (AC Milan four, Juventus two).

This match is United's 200th in Champions Cup/CL. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and AC Milan have already reached this milestone. United can also record their 50th draw in the competition.

Drawn their last three CL matches but are unbeaten in 19, a record equalling streak.

KEY PLAYER NOTES

Inter's Dejan Stankovic can equal the record for CL matches played by a Serb. He has played 61, one fewer than Predrag Djordjevic (Olympiacos, 62 matches).

Stankovics' team mates Maicon and Javier Zanetti are the only players from either side to have played every minute of this season's CL.

Manchester United leading Premier League scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo (12 goals), is yet to find the back of the next in this season's CL.

Ryan Giggs (108), Paul Scholes (104) and David Beckham (104) are the most experienced British players ever in European competition.

Nemanja Vidic is suspended for this match after receiving a red card in the Fifa Club World Cup final in December.

OTHER MISCELLANEOUS FACTS

Internazionale's head coach Jose Mourinho has been in charge of 12 previous matches against Alex Ferguson and has only lost once (winning six, drawing five); the defeat being Chelsea's 1-0 Premier League loss in November 2005.

Definitions of terms used:-

Champions League (CL) - only group phase matches and beyond of this competition which began in 1992-93.
Champions Cup/Champions League - all matches played since it began in 1955-56 including qualification matches.
European matches - all matches played in the major European tournaments (Fairs Cup, Uefa Cup, Cup Winners' Cup, Champions Cup, Champions League).

Utd have a huge injury crisis at the back...Vidic, Neville, Brown, Rafael all out...only Rio and Evra left of the starters...Fabio hasnt played a prem or UCL game, and Eckersley is a reserve player...OShea and Evans are doubt and will have a fitness test tmrw, hopefully they make it...Fletcher may hafta RB if it doesnt...

playing for the most overated club in the world

Champions of the World

Allyuh Man Utd fans just love that tag eh? Because it have 'world' in it ent? . Is a sheit competition with a set of mickey mouse teams, the only way you can go up there and not win this is if you're Liverpool. When they have some more competitive teams in it then allyuh could talk.

More times than not, when Fergie talking injury crisis it amounts to no crisis at all  . I feel he just facking with Mourinho head, Evans and O'Shea will start I think, if they don't you could be in some trouble with Adriano and Ibrahimovic. I not even a ManU or Inter fan and I rel looking forward to this, two of the best players in the world on show Ronaldo and Zlatan. Zlatan sometimes bottles it when it comes to the big occasion so I'm expecting him to be out to prove a point.

Lyon have never beaten Barça

Barça and Lyon have played each other in four competitive games before, all of them in the group stages of the Champions League (2001/02 and 2007/08 ). Barça have won three of those clashes with the other ending in a draw.

equal2zero, if you don't what you're talking about then its better just stay quiet...Barca lost 2 yrs ago and Liverpool the year before that...it was the only trophy ACM won last year and many of their fans, who are very demanding as the typical italian is, were very pleased with that...
European teams have major jet lag when they go to play and yet Utd still managed to come thru as comfortable winners and havent lost a game in the league since...

Fergie is prolly bluffing, esp with Evans as he usually wouldnt let an injured player do a press conference...OShea is genuinely a risk but hopefully he makes it...2 years ago we played ACM at Old Trafford with a similar injury crisis at the back (Fletch was RB and Heinze was CB) and won 3-2 thanks to 2 goals from Rooney in the end...hopefully something similar happens today...

worksux101 you eh tell me yet why that competition is worthy of being called in the same vein as the Champions League and Premier League. Is not like ManU fishing for names to call itself, its one of the most successful and decorated clubs in European football for fack sake. I have no vendetta against you winning it, fair enough if you do but whoring it as some huge accolade when you know it's not is taking it a bit too far i think. Gamba Osaka and LDU Quito steups :? that competition needs reformatting to include other European teams if it is to be taken seriously by anybody other than the fans of the big European teams that win it.

European teams have major jet lag when they go to play and yet Utd still managed to come thru as comfortable winners and havent lost a game in the league since

This shows Utd's strength in depth which teams like Chelsea and Liverpool lack. They have multiple match winners as compared to Liverpool and Chelsea's one or two. If Ronaldo doesn't fire there's Rooney, if not him Berbatov, Giggs, Scholes all brilliant players.
