Looks good..

Some raised, framed wall art would cover up those unused light fixtures nicely. Better yet if they still function, a translucent/canvas something for backlit effect.

Where are you getting media cabinet? - Finding a decent sized that works with the rest of my room is difficult, considering building now..

On a side note anyone ever bought from http://amazingbuytt.com

Wondering if the quality worth the fairly decent prices..

Many in here will argue all HDMI 1.* cables aren't the same...failing to realise HDMI is a standard across the board.

buying a higher priced cable only offers better quality control and the chance that you dont end up with sparklies on your screen

data is data.

BTW I wasnt talking about HDMI for your cable box, I meant good quality RCA cables - FYI.

Anyone using an optical switch/splitter? My receiver has only one optical input and I have 3 optical capable devices. Worse yet, the receiver can't take audio over an hdmi signal.
I'm finding a lot of mixed reviews online about it
Any of ollya can give me ur 2cents on it?

imo, when you spend 10k on a tv, approx 5K or more on HT set up and 1k on bluray player
spending $2-500 on cables (HDMI and RCA) shouldnt be a problem whether or not it makes a difference

anyone wanna do some cable testing to see if you can detect any visual differences??...

The only people who should buy Monster cable are people who light cigars with Benjamins. Fortunately for Monster, there are plenty of those people. They're not even suckers, they are just rich as hell, and want the best. This testing did not prove that Monster is not the best. It just proved that the best is, for the most part, unnecessary.

The Results
None of our editors could tell the difference. The fact is, HDMI is digital, meaning you either get the feed or you don't. High prices and gimmicks like gold-plating don't affect 1s and 0s. Our advice: Purchase your wiring online for cheap, and use the saved money to upgrade to a larger flat screen.

the scenario is quite different for speaker cables.....some even going the way of running line conditioners for electrical outlets...

simple rule of thumb

dont buy the cheapest or the most expensive

while an hdmi cable carries digital data

the quality of the construction will determine its durability over time for physical damage

when you think of it, no one buys a high end USB cable - because data is data.

however I've seen cheap HDMI cables that show lil sparkles on the screen, switch for another cheap cable and no sparkles. I've never seen issues with mid to high priced cables. So perhaps is a QC issue.

On another note I realise I make a bigger fuss about picture quality than sound quality, where as some of you it's the other way around.

why are you using optical though?
those three devices can be connected via HDMI

HDMI is far better than optical audio.

depending on your direcTV box, if it doesn't have HDMI then you can use the optical connection for that alone. But the PS3 should definitely connect via HDMI and for the HTPC you should get a HDMI card if it doesnt have one

^ my receiver doesnt support audio over hdmi .. The hdmi ports (stupidly enough) only act as video switching
Denon avr-390
And I had no idea that hdmi audio was better than optical.. I always thought that optical was the best
