POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE NINE UPGRADED TO
TROPICAL STORM HARVEY At 5:00p.m. today, Thursday
17th August, 2017, Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine
has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Harvey and was
centred near 13.0°N latitude 55.8°W longitude or
approximately 400 km east of Barbados.
Tropical Storm Harvey is moving westward at 30
km/h and this general motion is expected to
continue for the next few days. Maximum sustained
winds are near 65 km/h with higher gust and slow
strengthening is possible during the next 48
hours.
On the forecast track, Tropical Storm Harvey poses
no immediate threat to Trinidad and Tobago and
should move through the Windward Islands and into
the Caribbean Sea on Friday. The leading periphery
of this system is expected to begin affecting
Barbados later tonight and could produce rainfall
totals of 50 to 100 mm as well as gusty winds
across portions of the Windward Islands, north of
Trinidad and Tobago from tonight into Friday.
The progress of this system is being closely
monitored and persons with interests in the
Windward Islands should pay close attention to
information being issued by the Trinidad and
Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), by visiting
our website at

our mobile app (search:TT Met Office) and
following us on Facebook and Twitter. The TTMS is
reminding citizens that we are in the rainy season
and adequate preparations must be made to preserve
life and property against adverse weather
conditions.
WE WISH TO UNDERSCORE THAT AT THIS TIME TRINIDAD
AND TOBAGO IS NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL CYCLONE
THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING. The TTMS will
continue to monitor Tropical Storm Harvey and will
issue another bulletin at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow,
Friday 18th August, 2017, or sooner if the
situation warrants.
