I highly doubt it's a money issue. Even though T&T has forex problems, if the government needs 5m USD for vaccines they can easily find that.

Antigua & Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & Grenadines and Suriname got 175k doses from India.

So that's approx 750k persons total getting 175k doses which is a fairly decent amount. 23% getting at least one jab is up there with the best countries who are rolling out vaccines.

y spend it on vaccines for the low class no good citizens when the money can go in the pocket of the 1% and the ministers. same as 6 million to pull out a 1 million truck or 500 million on a new boat vs costing 70 million to refurbish the old one and they go say country have no money. they sell the panorama for scrap and it was refurbished and working good in a country without corruption from the head.

Man the entire Caribbean put us to shame in how much better their handled covid.

They showed compassion for their citizens (not locking them out), they tried to find balance with managing cases and the economy, they sought to get as much vaccines asap.

As it stands, Barbabos might have more than half their country vacinatted before we have even 1% (not 'the' 1%) vaccinated.

White House to unveil new global vaccine initiative aimed at manufacturing 1 billion doses by 2022

WASHINGTON – The White House will announce a new global vaccine initiative Friday – aimed at expanding manufacturing capacity in India for up to 1 billion new doses for developing countries by 2022, according to an administration official.

The administration touted the effort ahead of a virtual summit Friday morning between President Joe Biden and the leaders of Japan, India and Australia.

The official, who briefed reporters on the condition of anonymity, did not provide cost details but said it would center on a financing agreement for "a very substantial, frankly dramatic increase in the capacity to create vaccines – up to a billion by 2022." The initiative will also help fund vaccine delivery to people across Southeast Asia.

Serum Institute of India already claims it can do 60-70m per month.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-55571793

That's 720m - 840m per year already.

How much more investment is needed to get it to 1b.

Do the math. 50% - 75% capacity increase to meet the calendar year target.

The list of countries putting a temporary halt on the use of the Astra Zeneca vaccine is growing

Germany, France and Italy have halted rollouts of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, after a series of incidents in Europe involving blood clots.
They join several smaller European nations who have halted vaccinations as a precaution while checks are made.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has said there is no evidence that the incidents are caused by the vaccine.
It said it was reviewing reports relating to the jab, but it was important vaccinations continued.

The vaccine solution to the covid19 pandemic and the attendant availability circumstances are really not surprising and only reflects the global inequities and to some extent the survival of the fittest nature of our existence.
This pandemic is really continuing to provide a tutorial to us all on what are the ramifications and pain associated with a preference for selfishness instead of selflessness.
Timelines for control of the pandemic on a global scale just doesn't exist and WHO has been 'thrown in the bamboo' with their idealistic COVAX dribble.
Countries that feel and have the ability to source huge supplies of the vaccine, that they are going to be back in business soon without factoring transmission possibilities from outside their borders are in for the next COVID19 realities.
The immunization time protection the vaccines offer at this time are unclear and certainly doesn't appear permanent.

I thought Trinidad was the 3rd richest per capita in the western hemisphere?

Why are we the 8th worst in the world in vaccination rollout?

On the flip side these are the leading countries.

Bolivia, Venezuela, Rwanda, Guyana, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe all way ahead of us.

Firstly that list has 134 countries, there are at least 190 countries. Plus they are including territories like Jersey, Gibraltar, Bermuda which are not countries. There are several countries, not listed in that list that have 0 vaccinations. T&T is not 6th to last.

Secondly, this is not a PNM vs UNC issue. There is a limited supply of vaccines and all the "woke" first world countries gobbling them up first like good capitalists. The only reason why some countries have vaccines is due to donations from Russia, China and India. Both Rowley and Kamla asked for T&T and India blanked us and not responding to the local press.

There is nothing PNM or UNC can do at this point but wait in our position in the line. As grateful as our Caribbean neighbours are, when their vaccines are done, they are in the same position as us. This is global politics and Big Pharma. If your naive to believe that something within T&T is causing this then you are free to have your opinions.

What they could do is make sure JUHN Scarfy and War on Salt MoH singing from the same choir book, and not adding additional stress by their mixed, contrary messages.
So all the big hype up about Covax and how much we paid to "secure"(according to Deyalsingh) our supply of 280K vaccine doses?

agreed, batches of anything should not differ so much and if they do then they need to come out and say outright that the eu batch not good.

Well as I said before many of those "countries" are not countries. And they received donations from larger countries. When covid-19 is over, these pharmaceutical companies know where they make their money and will prioritised them over us.

Think of it like a doubles man. If you eating doubles one by one and ppl coming and ordering 6+ doubles you will find yourself waiting. While you think it is easy for him to slip in you one doubles, he is serving his bigger, higher paying orders first.

no. with doubles you normally get served first if you come hungry belly and want one to eat now. take-away orders, regardless of size, are made in the order they are placed and prepared in the interval between eat-here doubles.

how could you not know this?

all this pressure on the govt over not being the first to order vaccines... look at all the first-world countries (Germany, France, Italy, Spain) putting the AZ vaccine on pause over safety concerns. Those countries have far higher case loads than T&T and they are -- PUTTING THE ASTRAZENECA VACCINE ON HOLD -- pending investigation.

I personally looking out for only FDA approved vaccines. Pfizer, Moderna, the same kind they giving out by the hundreds of millions in the USA. When Superpharm get it, I will pay a big morney and take my shot of the good juice.
