Lol like 15 years ago...had a fella selling chocolate out of the back of a truck in chaguanas near Montrose vedic ....chocolate like 10% of the price. I spend a lil $200.

When I reach home and start to open thing I realize everything have worm and everything expired ....like d driver suppose to dump the goods and he decide to sell it.

Allyuh ever hear that hilo does throw out their cold/frozen goods every couple days and throw bleach over the dumpster so people wont take it to resell or reuse...but that people still dig into it and get stuff underneath that they then resell/cook/ use?

25 cents! I remember when it was $1.50 and considered a great luxury. This was when maxi short drop was $1.

25 cents you say. And you could have gone cinema and still get a burger with fries and a coke after?

I worked on a compound with the warehouse for a large local distributor years ago. When they threw away the expired juices the employees used to have to take a knife and cut each pack and empty the contents, then put the cut packs in the large swmcol bins. Just to prevent anyone in the dump getting that brand and selling it potentially tarnishing the distributor.

They have to do that with fresh foods because people could go dumpster diving and get food poisoning and dead, then blame the company. Like PriceSmart chicken. But the food waste like that is so big that large cities like NYC and Paris revisiting legislation on it.

Packaged stuff these days, the manufacturer collects it back. Like Kiss bread and juices and such. I pointed out expired local pepper sauce at a grocery recently and the owner said that the supplier would come and remove it. That seems like the consumer model changed so groceries don't take the risk for unsold/expired product... or was it always like that?

So all the grocery doing is basically renting out a shelf space for the company then? Because I've seen the company workers packing grocery shelf with their product these days, rather than grocery workers doing that. Especially in the big chains.

Online grocery shopping could decimate that business model. Supermarket Association will get lobbyists to make government put an online tax if anyone tries it.

That going on long time

A big grocery is basically a real estate machine accommodating the big distributors fighting for frontage space

holiday snacks and some bottled water/soft drink companies already offering delivery.

when you selling bags of mostly air and bottles of sugar water, is level profit. Keep in mind these folks are in the "manufacturing" industry and have real pull with the government.

Advertising agencies are on the brink of collapse. Some have furloughed most staff.

They're probably the least essential of all businesses in TT. Do they even add value?

Ad Agencies were suffering even before Covid. Gortt and state agencies had cut back on their advertising and marketing a few years now

Well by that reckoning, 75% of all businesses in TT are non-essential then?

What Im saying is they market a product. If that product isn't essential then the market probably doesn't need it so no need to sell it via advertising. Their sole job is to sell a product that people don't need. People want beer and advertisers try to convince them that they need a heineken.

Can you even think of a major product or service (that no one thought they needed) which became successful without advertising?

You're thinking in a tunnel. Advertising is a major cog in the world's economy.

An ad agency is still required for online advertising. Agencies build marketing campaigns, strategies, do bookings, creatives and artwork etc etc. all that is still very necessary with online advertising.

You can very easily and cheaply hire someone online abroad to manage a campaign and design adds.

What people charging 10k tt for locally you can pay 100 us to get done

Marketing is a luxury spend. It's not essential. In times of lean economic times people are not concerned with buying a product they don't need. They only care about the necessities. The necessities hardly need marketing. Do you see any ads in TT for toilet paper?

Isn't it telling that the ad agencies make their most money around election time.

That lean economic times make advertising all the more useful though. You can rope in the smaller quantity if customers it has.
