If Kamla wants to remembered as one of the rare honourable politicians of T&T, she should bow down and endorse Vasant come closer to the actual internal election. I am already hearing some unsubstantiated rumours that this may happen. They both have a good working history, so hopefull it does.

Vasant is one of the rare members of the UNC who has a good head on his shoulders. He's smart, decent and has charisma. The country stands to benefit greatly from having a well working opposition under him. Under Roodal we will get more rumshop style politics and under Kamla a self rightous, out of touch and deluded opposition.

Let us see if the UNC memebrs have some sense.

The problem with a party like the UNC is that they are so paranoid about the "PEENM" that they surround themselves with deluded sycophants. PNM isn't much different, but ultimately the party is more grounded in reality given the influence/support/control by corporate T&T (aka the oligarchy). Their internal advisers are lightyears ahead of UNC's advisors, many of whom are so narcissistic, they border on crazy.

I know many young smart professionals who supported the PP but would never align with them due these shady characters. It borders on a cult, you really have to see it to believe it.

Now many of these advisors and groupees were fans of Kamla. However, due to her resigned demeanor, many of these groupees will shift to Rudy, who they perceive, will continue the family/friends special contract deals should he gain office.

Please note, this cult-like behaviour amongst the closest members of a political party are certainly not unique to UNC, nor Trinidad. Just look the current set of Republicans in the GOP where you have literally crazy people like Ben Carson who makes, Trump look like best candidate to win the nomination.....hmm perhaps this has actually been Trump's plan all along.

Did he really "give" up his seat(held for 3 years)? Bharath was one of the MP's who didn't sign the petition for KPB to be appointed Opposition Leader in 2010, hence he wasn't a contender for the 2010 elections IIRC

UNC is one backward and indisciplined party. Basdeo is my boy but after all these years the party still lacking institutional structure and systems. 1. The party members vote for each position on the executive.

2. Vasant can run to be UNC leader, but as he is not an MP he cant be the Opposition Leader. So yes as far as the Parliament is concerned he would have no more power than he does now. He would only have power over the UNC party . . . which Dookeran found out was next to nothing.

3. Opposition Leader is chosen by the Opposition MPs from the Opposition MPs . Whoever gets a majority of the 18 Opposition MPs on thier side is the Opposition Leader.
